I tried getting my Sim to feed my toddler sims and they just won't eat!

My child sim continuously has an issue where they pick up a plate of food to eat then just stand/sit there with it, and make no attempt to eat the food. Every meal time I am forced to re-start the game which is the only thing I’ve found to work so far to get them to eat.
