Hey, HUT Fans! Team of the Season is here and we'd like to give you all a say in which items receive a TOTS upgrade. We will be releasing the CTOTS items for North America, Europe, Young Stars and Women's teams. Voting will run from March 27th - April 3rd. The CTOTS will go live on April 6th. How do I participate? NHL 23 Patch Notes 1.6.0
Hello NHL Community, A new NHL 23 patch will be available on Tuesday, March 7th, at 1 pm EST. This patch is highlighted by the new ability to play cross-platform HUT Play a friend matches against the opposing platform on your respective console generation (PS5 vs Xbox Series X and PS4 vs Xbox One). Here’s a quick guide on how to use it. You’ll first want to head over to the Play A Friend tab in the HUT Main Menu From there you will want to click on the new Private Game tab. Once you enter a Private Game, you’ll need to set a password, make sure that your opponent sets the same password on their end which will allow you to match up against them. Once you both have the same password set, select Start Game and you’ll matchmake against one another. Tips for Defending in '23
Seems like many people have some gripes about defense - myself included. Over the last couple of weeks, I've refined and adjusted defensively, and I feel that I've gotten more comfortable in defending than I was at launch. Here are a few tips I'd like to pass along to the community. Some of this might already seem self-evident to long-standing defenders who understand the position inside and out. So, these may not be for you - although I hope my GIFS can add some context to age-old defensive nuance that may provide a new perspective and encourage everyone to up their game. Also - I play an incredibly passive defensive game. This might not be for everyone. You're likely going to see instances where I should've gone for a poke/body check and I don't. My argument to that would be that I feel in '23 - a poke check or a body check is more likely to put you out of position than it is to actually knock the puck loose and cause a turnover, especially when a puck carrier skates into the zone.. Of course, this will vary depending on who you're controlling and their body check/poke check attribute. Tip # 1: Be passive & Cut off the inside track Offensive players have become accustomed to lackluster defenders online. They will bait you into using an R1 poke check, thus killing your speed, and then taking that open ice to get right in to the slot. To defend this - resist the urge to poke check as soon as you've locked on to the puck carrier and guide them wide of the slot and/or force them to attempt to cross in front of you. Here I am taking up position and not allowing the puck carrier to cross in front to the slot. It forces him wide, negates the threat to the slot and I've also retained the speed & agility on my defender, allowing me the speed to keep tracking him and cut off his eventual 2nd attempt at getting a money-goal-slot-shot: Here I shut down his anticipated move to the slot. When he has no recourse, he pulls up - thus negating his speed. This allows me to match his positioning while utilizing poke check to stifle another attempt at moving to the slot. If I had attempted a poke check while the puck carrier was skating full speed, he would've blown right by me. But I maintain composure and only utilize the poke when I know he's slowed down and it's not as big of a risk for me to use it: Another example of being patient, keeping in line with the lateral plane of the puck carrier and not letting anything get to the slot: Tip # 2: Use the threat of a poke check to slow down the rush, allowing backchecking forwards to get into their defensive positions Here, I am once again being very passive but that's because I KNOW my opponent wants me to go for a poke check so he can abuse the slowdown and get to a prime scoring area. However, I don't poke check immediately (which is what he expects) and I force him to glide and hold the puck forehand/backhand. This slows him down considerably (thank goodness) and you can see this allows my teammates to clog the slot and snuff that threat: Tip #3: Poke check when the puck carrier's feet stop moving Puck carriers love to bait the D in to using the poke check. However, when they stop moving their feet, a poke check will not penalize the defender as much and is generally more accurate: Also - once the players' feet stops moving or they've entered the dreaded LT in the slot - use a flick of RS to knock them off: Tip #4: Pump LT on defense A weird habit I've picked up is pumping LT while defending. This ensures my defender is constantly facing the puck carrier, even at weird angles: This allows me to maintain my forward speed and match the puck carrier while facing him, without being victim of the animations that get triggered when you fully enter LT: But be careful - in this clip, I pump LT just one too many times and almost get caught: Tip 5: Lateral movement is paramount and NOT chasing is key Here, my opponent is having difficulty entering the zone. Because they are not too keen on dumping and chasing and they want to just carry the puck in to wheel-snipe-celly, I can completely shut it down by ensuring I don't chase him but also that I move laterally to cover his intended entry in to the zone: By not rushing the puck carrier, it forces them to make a movement that they didn't anticipate and it sends them right in to traffic: I'll continue to update this thread with anything I find useful to pass along to my fellow d-Men. How to Record & Capture Gameplay
Hey, everyone! Below are instructions on how to record gameplay. Videos can be helpful when you are creating discussions to highlight something happening in game, ask for advice on gameplay, or when reporting a bug (videos are not required for bug reports but it is helpful to the team if you want to go a little extra) If your video size is too big to upload on the forums as an attachment, uploading them to a trusted external source like YouTube and then dropping the link to your video works. Xbox One (Official Site): To capture the last 30 seconds of game play, press the Xbox button on your controller and then press the X button (Record that). For longer recordings, press the Xbox button on your controller, then choose Capture options. Then select Record from now or Capture what happened. This is where you can choose if you want to capture 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes, etc. To watch your game clips, press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide, select Broadcast & capture, then select Recent captures. There are options to upload it to OneDrive & Twitter which can assist you in uploading them to another source if you need to or you can just drop the link in the reply. PlayStation 5 (Official Site): How to capture videos and screenshots on PS5 consoles To take a screenshot or video on your console, press the create button on your DualSense™ wireless controller to open the create menu, and then select one of the following ways to capture: Take Screenshot Take a screenshot of your current game screen. Start New Recording Start a new recording of your gameplay. When you're done recording, press the create button to open the create menu, and then select Stop Recording. You can record up to 1 hour of gameplay. Save Recent Gameplay Video of your recent gameplay is continuously and automatically recorded. You can save anywhere from the last 15 seconds up to 1 hour of gameplay. Some content can't be captured. Some scenes are blocked and won't be included in your video clips. PlayStation 4 (Official Site): How to capture screenshots on PS4 consoles You can save a screenshot of your gameplay in one of the following ways. Press and hold the SHARE button on your controller. Press the SHARE button, and then press the triangle button. Press the SHARE button, and then select Save Screenshot. How to capture video clips on PS4 consoles Video of the most recent 15 minutes of gameplay is continuously and automatically recorded. You can save a video clip of your gameplay in the following ways. Press the SHARE button twice to start recording, and then press the SHARE button twice to stop recording. Press the SHARE button, and then select Save Video Clip. How to view your saved video clips and screenshots Select Capture Gallery from the content area. Press the OPTIONS button on your controller to sort your media by name or date, and delete video clips or screenshots. Hey, NHL Fans! Patch 1.7 will be released at 1pm EDT on Tuesday, April 4th. EA Servers may become unavailable for up to 2 hours after the patch is deployed. A new NHL23 Patch will be deployed at 1 pm ET on Friday, February 10th. Here are the details: --- Game Modes Fixed a crash in BAP and Franchise mode screens that was caused by a telemetry reporting event. --- *We are aware of the issue in Creation Zone that is causing players to not appear. We are working to resolve this and will have a fix available in the next NHL 23 patch, scheduled to be released in early March. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your patience.
NHL 23 Phantom Controller Bug after Controller Disconnects on Xbox Series X
Product: NHL 23 Platform:Xbox Series X What is your gamertag/PSN ID? Cave Waverider How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%) Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? . Start an (offline) match with a controller controlling a team. 2. Pause the game and wait until the controller turns off due to being idle (this happens a lot when you need to answer the door, help someone or take a phone call) or the battery runs out. 3. Continue the game. 4. Note that suddenly the players don't react to controller inputs. 5. Pause the game again. 6. Go to Settings->Select Sides 7. See that there is now a phantom controller assigned to your team and you can't unassign it, but your controller now has a different color and you can select a side. 8. No matter what you do, there is now a phantom controller in this game that you can't remove and you need to leave the game. What happens when the bug occurs? When the bug occurs, there is a phantom controller assigned to a side that can't be unassigned and the game becomes basically unplayable until you exit the match. What do you expect to see? When the controller turns itself off or disconnects, it should automatically be unassigned or if you reconnect it, it should be reassinged as the same controller in the game. Another possible quick fix would be to add an "unassign all controllers from sides" function in the select sides menu. Was the issue in online or offline mode? When you report a bug, we review the reports and work with the game development team to identify the reported bugs and issues that most impact our players. Bug Reports: Reports about bugs and glitches, should be posted here in the Bug Reports forum It can sometimes be confusing whether an issue is due to a bug or a technical issue. It's okay if you're unsure where to post, but as a quick rule of thumb, a bug would need to be fixed in a patch/update, and a Technical issue might be fixable with troubleshooting. Bugs would include things like level geometry issues, missing textures, or broken animations. Technical issues would consist of crashes on startup, game instability, and performance issues. When providing information on a bug report, posting on an existing thread is okay if your issue is exactly the same as the original post. If you are experiencing a similar issue with slight variations, please create your own topic. If you find multiple bugs, create a separate thread for each one. While this may seem tedious, It helps us get to the point of the bugs making a more effective experience for you and us. Please post a subject with a clear summary of your issue. Starting posts with "I need help!" or "Can't play no matter what" only serves to make your issue harder to resolve. How to fill out your bug report: A vital part of a bug report is that we can reproduce the issue you are seeing. Having clear text on what you did or a video can be a lifesaver for us. Note: the screenshot below shows NHL 22, but when you create a Bug Report on this board it will automatically choose NHL 23 as the product.
