It's a laptop with components crammed into a small tiny space with minimal cooling apart from the dual fans. Games use a lot of power which creates a lot of heat. Make sure it is elevated so air can circulate underneath, DO NOT clip on a plastic cover to the bottom, and maybe invest in a USB cooling pad with fans to sit your laptop on.

    Thanks for your comment I understand it’s a machine with multiple components but I wouldn’t say this is a solution. I managed to resolve it myself with a software that allows me to control the fans and start them before the machine gets to hot. It’s called TG Pro for anyone else finding their macs getting hotter than they are comfortable with

    Third party apps that interfere with the SMC can sometimes invalidate the warranty of the machine if it needs any kind of repair at Apple. Be careful 🙂
