Re: [WORKAROUND] game/Mac freezes on Apple silicon Macs

Haha well, it was working great and super fast (faster than my iMac) however I just went to "detail edit" some eyes and it crashed. Computer rebooted and reloaded the game in about 25 seconds though! Either its not ready for M1 or its to do with the stability issues that come up on the main screen. I haven't played for months so I'm only referring to the notification that comes up and have no actual knowledge of if that would have anything to do with it.

  • yeah it's pretty fast they did release a game patch update and my game was working until the patch came out so the patch could've broken it. But does it make ur whole computer freeze? Plus it could be not ready for M1.

@simplyluke__ Same here, I got to play a little on break from work today and just booted up after this patch and well now I can't rotate a sim in CAS without this crashing and if I even get out of CAS I can't even choose a neighborhood to live in because the selection screen is completely blank!

@BluebellfloraJust did that! crashed still; going to try to uninstall and then re-install.

UPDATE: The re-install did not fix the issue either.

  • Yeah like the audio will play but the visuals of the game freeze. Idk what's causing this, but I'm so sad I can't play ☹️

After the update last week the game is full of bugs, even in windows computers and laptops the game is crushing. We must think that TS4 is still not optimized for M1 and is running through Rosetta 2 (a kind of simulator) which doesn’t help with all bugs the game is facing. I believe this machine is more than capable to play TS4 but maybe we will have some patch soon and will be able to play perfectly.

Have you since found a fix? I’ve just bought the new MacBook Pro 2020 M1 chip and my sims keeps crashing on the initial create sim screen - so frustrating!

  • @simplyluke__ mine freezes after clicking start a new game and a few clicks of editing the sim. command+option+esc doesn't work and the only way to get out is by force shutting down my laptop by holding the power button.

yeah it did the same thing for me and I have the new MacBook Pro M1 chip, kind bummed out about the crashes. Now I'm not sure if its the game with their recent patch release or is it that it's not compatible with the M1 chip? Weird thing is that it was working perfectly fine, until I edited a sim and it froze/crashed my computer?

  • by clicking on the vertical sync, does that cancel out the audio of the game? cause i have vertical sync turned on now, works perfectly fine so far. but, i noticed i have no audio. just wanted to make sure.

Merged a bunch of posts from users with M1 Macs. Read the accepted solution on page 1 for a fix.
  • I am having this exact same issue and I'm looking for a way to fix it. Every time I'm in CAS trying to do any body changes, it completely freezes my computer and I have to force restart the computer. I've done everything I can to troubleshoot and found no solution so far. The game runs perfectly well when I'm playing, this only happens in CAS. I tried repairing the game, reinstalling origin, getting rid of my mods and saves, resetting my sims 4 folder, and turning down my display and graphics. Nothing has worked. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know! I'm desperate T.T

Electric art folder find you sims 4 folder and  go to file options and open it with text editor and find verticalsync =0 to  verticalsync =1 that would stop the crashing
