Re: Is my internet Connection good for Apex Legends?

@VagetiosWell let's face it the better your internet connection, the better experience you're going to have in game. That said I think you should look to see if your internet connection can be improved at all. It might not be an option due to your ISP, hardware or location to the server. How ever it is worth a try.

The numbers on the website you provided us a link to are subjective to your location relative to the location of their test server. I run an internet connection test on servers in the EU, I'm going to get fairly horrible numbers. Simply because I'm in California. How ever if I run a test on let's say googles servers located in California I'll get better numbers. I know in the US you can run a speed test with google and I believe they will automatically use a server that's nearest to your location.

Here is a link to EA guide to trouble shooting your internet connection and improving it. https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/connection-troubleshooting-basic/ If you can not get your internet speeds to improve you might contact your ISP directly and see what your options are regarding improving your connection.

Can you play with your connection as is, sure. I have played on the EU servers with 150-170 Ping and packet loss going on. How ever I did not have much success because of the delay between what was going on in game and what was being displayed for me.

To give you an idea of what my numbers are in game. Ping is around 40 in game. Now on a test server Download speed is 115mbps upload is around 4.5-5mbps latency is 15ms and packet loss is 0. That is on a test server that is about 180 miles (289km) west of where I live. That is on my wifi.. If I run a ethernet connection I can get the speeds even higher.

Well, I tried Apex at a different location / provider, but same city area. I get 20-30ms ping to Frankfurt 1, while at home I get 40-50ms. There were days when I had 30-40ms at home, but it's not really relevant as most games are 50+ms. Some do go down to 45ms every now and then, but the average is somewhere at 70ms. When the performance indicator reaches 80+ms, lag becomes much more noticeable than when the value is at 65-70ms.

Also, watched some recent Aceu video where he played on Tokyo servers, but he doesn't seem to have noticeable lag issues, although he's at 130-140ms according to the indicator...

  • @DoYaSeeMe 150 plus ping you start to see micro freezes every 10 sec. I have to live through that at least half the time. If I am lucky I get 130-140 with smooth network performance.

@BaldWraithSimp I've seen freezes at 50-60ms as well. When things aren't smooth, it's a sign that the simulation missed some data. Can be packet loss, but can also be the inability of the client or the server to process all the info within that buffer time. I have a feeling that they increased buffer values lately to fix a part of the sound issues and that's why we also see more no regs.
  • @DoYaSeeMe I don't get any packet loss fortunately. At least, that's what the indicator tells me.

The devs haven't addressed the constant heal sounds you keep hearing in-game and random Octane footstep sounds from your legend. Maybe it will help fix some lag/sound issues.

@DoYaSeeMe That is cause ping isnt the end all be all. I play on 110 to 150 ping and also play on 30 to 60 pin depending on who I am with. The difference I see is in picking things up or opening things. High ping I cant land on someone and try to beat them to the gun or shield. They get it first.

As for the speed up or freezing, that occurs randomly for me no matter what the ping is. When I get the speed up stuff I see packet loss.

As long as I do not see packet loss the game runs fine for me and ping doesnt bother me. If high ping I just know not to race someone to something.
