Re: DXGI Error Device Hung & Rest

After working with Nvidia for the past 2 weeks and more to come, I have yet to find a solution to these crashes.

  • First tried Debug Mode in the Nvidia Control Panel, which did nothing
  • Reinstall my graphics card in same then a different PCI-E x16 slot and
    • Also check if the PCI-E x16 slot was damaged, no damage
  • Clean Install of GPU Driver
    • Uninstalled all gpu driver related files using DDU > Download latest driver from the Nvidia website > Clicked "Clean Installation" when installing driver
    • I left everything as default settings and it immediately went back to crashing on my first game.
  • Checking for stability with
    • 1 hour stress/stability test each with Unigine Heaven, Nvidia's Suggested Software , and FurMark looking to crash my graphics card to figure out what could be causing the crashes
    • Watched for any irregularity when testing, i.e. high temp, irregular jumping clock speeds, power consumption, and even unsteady memory clock speeds.
    • But my graphics card survived every single test with amazing benchmarks and results for each software used.
  • I oddly asked and then tired under clocking my graphics card
    • I went as far as -225 MHz to completely stop the maximum boost clock speed of 2010 MHz to its base boost clock speed of 1785 MHz, and as expected it did nothing
  • Based on this we can say my graphics card isn't the issue, so we went on to basic game troubleshooting
    • Firstly reinstalled Apex Legends
    • Changing all the in-game settings and control panel settings to low/high performance
    • Run Apex as an administrator
    • Lastly I separately decided to try everything that I have already tried and mentioned in the very first post. You probably guessed it, I still crash with all that done

From all that and still waiting on a new response from Nvidia, I am absolutely frustrated and stumped. It's been almost 4 months of troubleshooting and I have yet to figure out how to resolve these crashes. Is there anything else you, EA help, dev, or anyone else can suggest that was not already mentioned?

(edit) Added a DxDiag report that I did today

Hey @Carma1115 the last time I kept seeing errors such as this related to my GPU I had to replace it. Once I installed the new card I didn't see the issue again. Generally if this was an issue with the game we would be seeing a lot of reports of this.

Based on your DxDiag,  to start with the best thing to do is go ahead and run System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files:https://support.microsoft.com/en-ie/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-o...

You should also try the game on a new Windows admin account.

Let us know how you get on.

  • No corrupted or missing files when running the system file checker. When I created a new admin account I was able to play 4 full games before getting a 2 new crashes in a row. The first one is uploaded and the second one is crashes me to a black screen, did the windows ding and then disconnected my mouse. Only way to clear the crash was a power cycle

Hey @Carma1115 is it possible to try the game on another system to see if you continue to have issues?

@Carma1115  I think this issue is going on with all of their games (EA). I am able to play everything and anything else but battlefield 2042 or Dead space. I recently upgraded to a i9-12900k, 32gb of DDR4 ramm, and a Nvidia Geforce RTX 4070 Ti. I cant stay in a game longer than 5 mins. I have also have tried every fix recommended under the sun and no success. Also did you ever find a fix ?

  • Hi Darko

I have this same issue right now and many other people online have been having it too over the past few years. Them not posting on the EA forum doesn't mean it's a hardware issue and not a game issue.

I can run over 20 games at max graphics, 3 games at the same time and yet only Apex is causing this issue. Other than the crashing, it then forces my PC to force restart.

Respawn or EA team needs to investigate this and not suggest ignorant solutions such as "just buy a new GPU" as you are so clearly suggesting here.

A simple google search or twitter search for the error shows that this issue was a larger one a year into the games launch and an actual statement from RESPAWN was made on twitter regarding this.
