Game won't start via EA App due to faulty activation

So Ive been playing for 10 years and have never seen this pop up before!

Got it for the first time today, and my login details don't work. I tried a new password and the same thing happened - but I can log into the EA App and the EA website just fine.

There seems to be no fix... I've tried reinstalling the app, the game, clearing the cache, force updating the app, repairing the game, changing my password, restarting 1,000 times, playing in offline mode but it says my license for the game has expired? I checked and I did buy the game through the app as it's in my purchase history from 2014.

I've seen one other game (Battlefield 3) have this issue with requesting activation with the login details not working, but not the sims 3... wondering if this is a new issue or if anyone has seen this issue before/knows how to fix it?

Not sure if there's a file/folder somewhere in program files/documents that has been deleted that has made this issue start to happen ? I'm pretty tech savvy for the most part, but this is just doing my dead in ! I try not to be negative but the EA app has honestly caused me SO many issues (which I can usually fix on my own...) but this one is just so frustrating ! I just want to play a game I bought ???? why do they make it so difficult...

Thank you so much in advance for any suggestions/help !

  • @EnricoFrancis  This error typically happens because your ownership of a given game can't be verified.  It's not that the game has been blocked or removed from your account, at least not these days—the EA App has other errors associated with that.  But perhaps your computer can't communicate with EA servers, or something along those lines.

At any rate, are you able to connect your computer to a different network?  For example, if it has wifi, you could set your phone as a mobile hotspot, with the phone using data rather than your home network.  You'd only need to do this for long enough to see whether you can start Sims 3; this shouldn't use much data at all.

If you use a third-party antivirus, please also make sure it hasn't recently blocked anything EA-related.

Thank you so much for getting back to me - I tried what you suggested however was unsuccessful... I contacted EA support as well however they had no fix for the issue, which is quite sad for me lol

    Hi @EnricoFrancis & @charleneuk20,

If your game license needs to be reactivated on your account, that's something the live support team can help restore for you- here on the forums we aren't able to access your specific account information to help with this.

Please reach out to live support again by submitting a new help request on the site here so they can get this reactivated for you- I'd also recommend attaching this AHQ conversation when you reach out so the team has further information to reference.

  • Thank you so much for your advice, unfortunately they weren't able to help me...

  • I was having the exact same issue and spoke to customer service. They suggested I remove special characters from my password and shorten it. After doing that, it worked. I guess there's something about the game activation window in the EA app that doesn't handle certain passwords very well.

  • I'm going to leave this here as I had the same issue. I had to replace my motherboard and then had activation issues with 2 games.

In Windows 10 go to this folder location: C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EA Services\License

EA Help said to delete file "71067.dlf" but that didn't work for me.

After some searching i found the solution here; https://answers.ea.com/t5/Other-EA-Games/Syndicate-Could-Not-Activate/m-p/13582778#M86064

As per the post by Frozenoulis I deleted all the files. The 2 games that where causing me problems then activated without any issues.

Coincidentally one of the games that didn't work for me was Plants vs Zombies. The other was Mass Effect 3.
