Sims 3 Mac sound delay and crashes

Hi everyone i just finished contacting support and they could not help.

I have the sims 3 64bit on my macbook air M1 (256gb storage, 8gb ram).

when i play base game only in sunset valley the game runs pretty smoothly with no issues. Once i add my expanion packs (i have pets, late night, seasons, showtime, ambitions, into the future, generations) i deal with sudden crashes that happen suddenly with no warning.

These crashes occur especially in worlds outside sunset valley so for example in Bridgeport, Starlight shores and even Twinbrook.

I have tried reinstalling the game, playing offline with no internet and with no apps opened in the background and even playing in windowed mode. The crashes still occur and another issue i have is sound delay which i still cannot find any information about online.

Basically when I add these expansion packs the sound plays a bit too late. E.g. my sims gets promoted and the sound effects get triggered later when he is home. I click on something and the clicking sound happens later etc.

When i play in worlds like roaring heights or with pets the game freezes with trees still moving but i can't click on anything.

Does anyone have any tips or anything that could help? anyone who uses the mac version with the same or all expansion packs who maybe knows how to have a smooth experience?

I have tried mods like errortrap and overwatch and they did not help.

It sucks that the base game is perfectly fine but once you add more expansion packs the game breaks.

Thank you!

To "uninstall" Pets, simply drag the EP05 folder out of the "The Sims 3 Packs" folder, which will be alongside the Sims 3.app wherever you installed the game.  To "reinstall" Pets, restore the folder.  You can remove and add back any expansion or stuff pack this way.

If removing Pets doesn't help either, remove your other expansions (not stuff packs, they're fine) one at a time until you find the culprit, then add the others back one at a time to make sure they're fine.  Please let me know which EPs give you trouble.

Given your laptop's hardware, you should in theory be able to play with all packs in any world, with the possible exception of Isla Paradiso, which is too broken to run well on any computer.  But clearly that's not the case here.

While testing, please restart your Mac immediately beforehand, and don't open any other apps.

    Hello thanks for replying.

I have removed all expansion packs, started the game with only the base game and then readded them all. The game has not crashed on me yet and i have been playing in Bridgeport.

The sound delay that i experience still happens but i have noticed it usually happens around instruments and concerts. So usually when it happens i notice a sim nearby playing an instrument or it often happens when my sim attends the concerts that come with showtime. I haven't played in starlight shores for a while but i remember having intense sound delay issues in it probably cause of the many singing and concerts that take place. It's like the game struggles to register too many sounds at once if that makes sense.

Additionally i have only been using "save as" everytime i save

When no instruments or concerts are being played then the sound delay does not happen that often. I wonder if there is a way to fix the issue.

The last time i have played i added two to puppies to the household so we will see if it will crash or freeze or not and i will let you know if anything happens. The sound delay issue is the main issue right now

    thank you

If you notice a pattern to the delays when you aren't hearing anything from Showtime, please let me know.  It could be seemingly completely unrelated, for example maybe it's worse when the weather is bad (rain/snow/hail) or when you have a certain number of sims on the active lot.

The problem with Pets is not really the active household or anything that happens in it.  The biggest problems are baby animals trying to route where they can't go, for example up or down stairs; and horses trying to route anywhere given the space they need, or even just the strain of rendering them.  So you may only notice a problem once you've been playing for long enough for these effects to show up: when other households have adopted pets or horses, or when you start seeing them around.
