Cannot place household in game mode

I'm unable to access my saved games, and when I got into my gallery and select a household to play, the button to place in world is greyed out and says "cannot place household in this game mode". I've tried  clicking on the "repair" option for the game, but nothing has changed. I've done research and a lot of people who have had this problem have never been able to get it fixed. Is there anything I can do?
