Re: Why is Prom happening every single week??

@taffster74 But that doesn't make sense. Prom is only once a year, and for older students (which of course doesn't work in EA because age doesn't actually exist, so that's understandable). And an end of the year dance would be end of the year, not weekly. If the football is meant to be different, that would make more sense for it being weekly, but it's not. It's just a festival every week, with nothing to do in it. if it was like actual afterschool club, it would have more options that change each week, which I would gladly accept for that.

Considering that Long lifespan teens cannot go to school after 4 weeks, this completely breaks the game for anyone playing the Long lifespan. Even with Prom being weekly, which still makes no sense, at least allowing Prom for EVERY week would fix the issue. Since Teens cannot get full time jobs, go to college, or have/adopt children, there is nothing left for them for half of their lifespan. This pack was promised to function for all lifespans, not just Normal

@NyxValkoinen I think when playing with long lifespan, a week is roughly equivalent to one year - roughly. So it does make sense to have prom every week. However, this does not carry over to the football event - but that maybe because of schedule crowding - possibly. As to the extra two weeks? Well, by the American schooling system, a person is still in middle school when they begin their teens and High school only covers ages 15-18 unlike the rest of the world where high school is ages 13-18. Why that wasn't factored into the pack - who knows. It may be part of a plan for a future pack exploring all school years? Anything is possible with the sims.

Well scheduling prom so I can enjoy rotation play and deciding on life events in a life simulation game seems not to be possible.

@taffster74 , High school in the U.S. is actually 4 years, and for most students it is for the years aged 14-18.  Of course, there are some exceptions depending on when a particular student's birthday is, or if they are really smart and skipped a grade, or had a really hard time and had to do over a grade, but usually high school is for ages 14 through 18. 🙂

Really poor design choices throughout this pack. Prom should be an event the player plans. I play on long life span with new years eve to new year's eve being a full year. it'd be nice to schedule prom at the end of summer. It annoys me some players are like "you can just ignore prom one week and not go". For a player who plays with seasons and relies on the calender/ holiday feature in their gameplay heavily. Not being able to plan holiday events on a Saturday is game breaking. Love the items just wish I could disable everything but the items and go back before the update. If it weren't for build/buy and cas I'd disable this pack through Origin. I said after My Wedding stories I'd be strong and stop buying Sims 4 content, I caved obviously but I mean it this time. Quitting smoking was easier than quitting Sims 4 content. And being honest smoking was less damaging to my mental health. My own fault for having hope in this game and belief it could get better.

@CommodoreLezmo Absolutely agree. We already have a low amount of "Social Events" we can throw, having Prom being one of those instead would have been much better for the pack. We don't even have seasonal parties for the Seasons pack, like Sims 3's Pool and Spooky Parties as an example. Sure, you can make a Holiday where you do those things, but you don't earn anything, and it isn't a party. Would be nice to have more "Events" to plan and throw on our own time, instead of being forced to do them every single weekend. At the very least, Prom should have been 1 weekend out of the entire school year, since that's literally how Prom works IRL. It's once a year, and only once a year. Seems weird that this pack was based solely on the American school system, yet literally isn't. I wouldn't mind a British themed pack instead, because at least that means they most likely don't have Prom every weekend in it lol And I agree with the smoking part. I stopped at 22, and it gave me less headaches than the Sims 4 as a whole. And I've been believing it could get better since 2014, at release. It hasn't. It feels like half-butted effort. The idea is amazing, but it isn't followed through, and that's what's disappointing to me

@NyxValkoinenexactly, before I realised how useful that calendar was I never touched the 'events' at all. My Sim would always get the sad buff from a forgotten birthday. I've been using the Calendar religiously for a while now. Certain events like Love Day and Spooky day I always scheduled on a Saturday so I had time to actively play my own scenarios on those days without school or work being an issue. I was so excited for high school years, I stopped playing my save two weeks before release as it had reached the end off the summer holidays for my two teenage Twins and wanted to start a realistic school year. ☹️ You can imagine my disappointment. It's really bad game design and it genuinely feels like pack cross compatibility hasn't even been considered. I wanted to play from end of summer to end of summer ending with prom. I had to download a mod so I could have normal weddings again after My Wedding stories removes the base game event if you have it installed. Now I'll have to wait for a mod to disable high school events. I'm fed up of buying packs for features that look amazing only to have to hunt down a way of disabling them in game. Either due to bugs or in this case a bad judgement call on the game designers part. PS well done for quitting smoking. Wish me luck on quitting buying game breaking content. Lol

@PugLove888 I know it's four years. But I have a feeling the age grouping's vary from state to state hence you get preparatory high-schools which cover 17-18 year olds which then means normal high school covers 13-16 year olds. Don't worry, It's just like it down here in Australia. In most states/territories high school is from ages 13-18 but in the ACT, high school is 13-16 years old then you go to either senior college (17-18 years old) or CIT (Kind of like a community college) depending on what you want to do after school.

I'm back and i can't say why i was away (against TOS). Glad to see this is still being discussed. I can only put the game high school schedule down to two things - either they (the developers) plan on expanding on childhood in a future pack (something i've said before) or those extra two weeks are there on purpose for one of two reasons which both tie into each other  - 1) it represents the "leave" gap some teens take between High school and college/University to "explore and experience" or 2) it gives us time to develop skills (max out focused skills and further develop those skills we've neglected for whatever reason) and further strengthen relationships. Either way, the tie in is that we can do those things in #2 anyway during those two weeks. The only other possibility for the extra two weeks is maybe the scouts/extra curricular groups schedule? Having never played that particular angle, I can't say.

It is by design to inform young adults and adults that prom is happening EVERY WEEK...

The most obvious solution to this mess is to lett us delete calender events because most of them are just annoying.

@taffster74 , I don't know of any high schools in the U.S. that aren't 4 years with the ages being roughly 14 -18, unless this is a recent development.🤨 I have had friends and relatives all over the country and they all had the same years of high school.  While there could be some preparatory high schools here which only cover 17-18 year olds, leaving normal high schools to be for ages 13-16, I have never heard of this.  My brother went a preparatory school, and it was 4 years for ages 14-18. Even all of the schools represented in TV, books, and movies have it the same.🤷‍♀️

The major difference I've seen in the States that can vary with state or region isn't with high school but with junior high/middle school and if there is an intermediate school or not. I've seen more intermediate schools in the last 20 years or so, but not very many of them, though it does seem to vary depending on where you live in the U.S.

I think it’s just not that well thought out to be honest.  I have a feeling the team on this pack were just more focused on other things.  It seems like a lot of effort went into the thrift clothing shop and the inclusion and pronouns updates and the actual ‘high school years’ part of it simply wasn’t the priority at the time.

It’s a shame as a more interesting school and control of the calendar events and classmates and being able to make other schools etc could have made this one of the best packs.

This feature is extremely immersion breaking when you don't even have the option to toggle it off. I play a lot of historical gameplay, so there are times that I don't want prom to exist at all in my world. And the fact that prom shows up for all teens, even if you have them quit school, makes absolutely no sense.

What's especially irritating is the game doesn't even make it easy to just ignore it. If you don't go through all the motions of agreeing not to go to prom, any potential love interests will develop a bitter sentiment about having expected a prom invite (even if they're a YA and no longer in school themselves!). Why are sims that are neither in school themselves or partnered with another sim who is still getting prom notifications? That makes so little sense that it's jarring in game.

Please give us the option to disable Prom, or at least cancel it and remove it from the calendar each time the event is generated! Better yet, let us toggle on or off ALL high school events so that if we don't want our sims to participate, they stop clogging up the calendar UI.
