Free the Baking Skill

Hello fellow simmers, I’m here to share my opinion on why the baking skill should be a base game feature in the Sims 4. As you may know, the baking skill was introduced in the Get to Work expansion pack, along with the cupcake factory machine and some new recipes.

However, I think that the baking skill deserves to be more accessible and integrated into the base game, and here are my reasons why:

The Get to Work recipes can still be locked behind the pack. I’m not suggesting that the baking skill should be completely free of any pack requirements. I think that the cupcake factory machine and the recipes that are exclusive to it, such as cream tarts, chocolate donuts, and lava bundt cakes, should still be part of the Get to Work pack. However, the baking skill itself and the recipes that can be made with a regular oven or fridge, such as the various base game cakes and cookies should be available to everyone. This way, the Get to Work pack still has its unique selling point, but the baking skill is not limited to only those who have the pack.

Not having the baking skill as a base game skill ruins the fun for players who bought the pack due to lack of recipes. One of the main complaints that I’ve seen from players who have the Get to Work pack is that the baking skill is too shallow and boring. There are only 32 recipes in total, and most of them are very similar to each other. For example, there are four types of bagels, four types of quiches, and four types of pies, but they only differ in one or two ingredients. There is also a lack of diversity in the types of baked goods, as most of them are either sweet or savory, but nothing in between.

There are no cakes, muffins, cupcakes, or pastries that are not made with the cupcake factory machine. There are also no cultural or seasonal variations, such as gingerbread cookies, pumpkin pie, or mooncakes. Having the baking skill as a base game feature would allow the developers to add more recipes and options to the skill, making it more fun and realistic. It would also give players more reasons to use the baking skill, such as for parties, holidays, or hobbies.

In conclusion, I think that the baking skill should be a base game feature in the Sims 4, because it would make the skill more accessible, more integrated, and more enjoyable. The baking skill is a great addition to the game, as it allows players to create delicious treats and express their creativity. However, it is currently too restricted and underdeveloped, and it deserves to be expanded and improved. I hope that you agree with me, and if you do, please show your support by tweeting at the developers. Thank you for reading, and happy simming!

    100% agree.

A freed Baking Skill in Base Game further helps with organization of the Cooking Menu and clears up any confusion between the Baking and Cooking skills.

If one doesn't own Get To Work, their Sims COOK a Pumpkin Pie from Cottage Living and COOK a Honey Cake from Seasons. These recipes only skill up the Cooking Skill.

If one owns Get To Work, the Baking menu is added, however baked goods are now split between the Baking menu and the Cooking menu. This split of baked good recipes is unorganized, defies logic, and creates confusion especially for brand new Simmers. To add to the confusion, preparing non-Get-To-Work baked good recipes still only skills up the Cooking Skill.

Because baked goods are featured across a multitude of packs, it would be beneficial to have the Baking Skill as a Base Game function.

Examples of the baked goods across DLC:

    1. Honey Cake, Seasons
    2. Coconut Cake, Island Living
    3. Matcha Cake, Snowy Escape
    4. Milk Bread, Cottage Living
    5. Blueberry+ Pie, Cottage Living
    6. Sugar Free Carob Coconut Cake, Spa Day
    7. Zombie Cake, Spooky Stuff
    8. Rainbow Brownies, High School Years
    9. Wedding Cakes, My Wedding Stories
