I think I'd have put it a little more eloquently than the OP, but I share the sentiment.
The charge rifle as-is, really doesn't do the new map any favours, and is fast creating a toxic meta of oppressive extreme-range suppression.
I don't know what the best direction is to go with it though;
- prohibit sniper optics, and thus turn it into a medium range single shot rifle?
- halve its magazine size, so its overall fire rate is reduced?
- reduce its spawn rate?
- increase its per shot ammo usage, so energy ammo becomes a meaningful consideration?
- make it inaccurate?
- make it require a charge-up, like the triple take?
Whatever needs to change, I think the crux of the problem is that the weapon excels in almost every regard:
- Infinite range
- 100% accurate
- No bullet drop
- Hit scan
- High DPS
- High ammo efficiency
- Reasonably competitive even at close range.
- 100% usable from zip lines, balloons & while in mid-air.
The charge rifle essentially renders all other long range sniper rifles obsolete, with perhaps the exception of the Kraber.
If you pass up the opportunity to pick up a Charge Rifle, you've either got one already, or you're playing hyper-aggro. (and it's even a reasonable weapon for hyper-aggro!)
- @TheJumpingJawa The only way to fix the weapon would be to add bullet drop, reduce the damage to 50 per beam, it should take 2-3 energy per shot, and yes reduce its spawn rate.
- @MoNosDirtyGaming It will probably become a legendary tier weapon after the initial "release", with limited ammo.
If not, it will almost certainly be nerfed to near uselessness... @TheJumpingJawa It is op, at least it will be in beginning for show case, but still they could actually make it louder so it would be more risky to use
Totally agree, lamest weapon in any fps i played. Any game i recall had equal quake BFG..
Tbh how the hell did that pass there internal testing at all lol..
Anyone who likes the charge rifle is a camping coward
Even AFTER the nerf, I think it should be removed. Not because its OP per se anymore; the nerf + the loss in potential DPS in close-to-mid range (where I would say most kills happens) makes it actually quite bad to pick over another secondary weapon.
So the reason why I think it should be removed is because it makes the game worse when it comes to the 3rd partying element. I think 3rd partying is a part of the game, but with the Charge rifle, even a noob can now just sit at 300 m and, without any skills, and randomly mess up a 3v3 fight between two other squads, randomly slowing people from the hits etc. With all other snipers, you at least had to move a little closer and have some skills to do this.
I know I can sound little bit contradictory when Im saying "its not OP" and also saying it should be removed. But I guess that I just dont like what it brings to the game, i.e. that you, with low skills, can affect a fight between two other squads so easily. When I hear a charge rifle I sometimes think of The War of the Worlds and half expect to see a giant tripod emerge from behind a hill.
Maybe that’s why they have it: so newbies can get some kills too. It’s like the Smart Pistol in Titanfall: that was there for players who were just learning to get a couple kills and have fun too.
that said, I wouldn’t be sad if it became a care package drop only. When I see one I pick it up - just to keep someone else from using it on me.
