respawn why do you hate snipers?

so im not sure if im the only one that noticed this but ive been playing since the end of season 7. back when the triple take was a sniper. then they took it away and put it in the carepackage. and then brought it back....as a marksman weapon....then nerfed it. then they took the longbow of all things, and put it in the replicator....and left us with either the sentinel or charge rifle on the ground....what is your thought process here? you have a perma care package sniper with the kraber. and honestly dont ever think that thing needs to come out of the care package. its too overpowered. but why did you take away a sniper rifle? we need more sniper rifles...not less. the thing that bugs me alot about this change is they made a new class of weapons called marksman, then proceeded to make them use sniper stocks. which is great use of loot. but its obvious you want marksman weapons and sniper rifles to be closer loot pool wise. so why not let people use whatever sights they want on these weapons. if i wanna use a 6x or a 4x8 on a triple take or bow let me. not only that but the bow cant even use the most marksman of optics the 2x4....im sure theres some aspects involved with this that im not aware on the dev side but theres no reason you cant allow them both to share optics entirely as well. hell the triple take used to use the sniper optics...just reinstate that but on all marksman weapons.

also we really need another sniper rifle like bad. just like we need another "starter" weapon on the same level as moz and p2020 like an energy pistol or something. but add another rifle please. something more akin to the longbow would be ideal.

oh and on the note of the p2020 please make it better in the aspect of spread. its spread is far to wide for a pistol that your bracing with 2 hands for gods sake.

  • Surprised no one has responded to this, so I'll step up to the plate:

I've been watching this game slowly and systematically herd players toward "desirable" behaviors and away from "undesirable" behaviors since the first patch. Someone somewhere, probably at the behest of the most competitive players (since that's how all games work now) decided that CQC is "fun" and sniping is "annoying." Every season that goes by finds fewer range weapons on the ground, no new range weapons added (except Bocek which may be fun for some but is worthless to me), and several (Scout, Longbow) removed to special drop status. And because those nerfs were not enough they went farther and made scopes (especially mid-range) scopes harder to find, even beyond the general thinning of loot that has been a consistent feature of this game from about the third or fourth season.

Loot thinning I'll let go since it affects all players equally and doesn't tilt the playing field except toward luck and away from skill, and that may well be how a looter-shooter should work (question for another day), but: thinning out long-range weaponry in favor of short-range weaponry is favoring one play style over another, one kind of player over another, and is garbage. Respawn: If you don't want long-range gun play then shut down battle royale and go to an arenas-only game.

I don't know what the answer is, but I can tell you that my frustration is peaking this season and I've quit more than one match as I find myself in the final five without a charge rifle or a triple take. It isn't because I can't play without them, but because I resent being asked to more and more. Right there with you, darkdragon.

  • Totally agree with the marksman scopes being problematic. In addition to all that, I think sniper with single bolt action being quite useless anyway. Sentinel - 70 damage to body without it being charged? It being totally useless in most case scenarios. The bullet drop + enemy movement + slow reloads in very long range, makes it one of the most advanced weapons to use. And for what - 70 damage? All the marksman weapons, assault rifles or even wingman will do a better job. All the other shooters that I have played, snipers like Sentinel should be 1 or 2 shot kill weapons. Most fights take place in buildings and not open areas, which makes the use of them questionable. So whenever you do happen to come across the chance to snipe, I find it totally unfair for sniper class to having it as low damage as they have.

  • Yeah, avrespawn, why strip snipers down like that? The longbow getting benched felt like a personal attack.
