SBMM completely broken

I'm an avid (solo) player with 200+ days (covid helped) played but I'm not a major sweat. 1.5 kd overall with a barely 4% win rate out of 20,000+ games played. I suck I know.  The other day I found my matchmaking actually working (so I thought) where I was just barely on the right side of the skill hill and playing very invigorating games with a lot of fun. Getting some top 5 finishes, some butt kickings, and finally a hard fought win. But once I got that win with 5 kills and barely 1000 dmg. All of a sudden I'm now the best in the world. I'm stuck at the very very very end of the SBMM ladder like top 5% and constantly dying to pred/master with 4k and 20 bombs wall jumping insta aiming everywhere. Idk what system is being used to determine skill but if 5 kills and 1000 dmg in low level lobbies is top of the world skill status I should be getting paid and not punished for winning. SBMM is broken. Completely and utterly broken. No other way to describe it. We'd be better without it. Just random lobbies would be better than this rubbish. Apex Legends has gone downhill since the end of season 12. Now I believe it's at the bottom of the barrel. There's no way they can screw this up more. Right??? Wrong.... Instead we'll buff Wattson and add micro transactions and make no attempt to listen to our community.

P.S. no one wants worlds edge or kings canyon over E district. We should never see these 2 old as dirt maps again without multiple seasons of E district. Give us new map and new legend and don't let us play it. The dumbest thing I've ever seen. WE WANT E DISTRICT!

Thanks Respawn so great of you.

Killing one person before you die is a k/d of 1.0. Which is where most players would be in a game with semi-functional matchmaking. Average players in this game will usually hover somewhere around that mark. You are 50% above it. May not sound like a lot to you, and I readily admit that if most of your losses are at the hands of predators then that doesn't make for a very satisfying experience. But it doesn't materially alter the fact that your k/d is significantly higher than average. And comparing yours to those of cheaters... I mean, predators... isn't really the point. There are a lot of players with lower k/ds than yours who still find themselves squaring off against the stacks of 4k/20 250,000 kill monsters... I mean, cheaters. Bronze-to-Predator matchmaking in pubs was routine in this game prior to this season. Routine.

All I'm trying to say is that your experience isn't extraordinary, and a lot of those other people don't have a kill and half to show for every match they play. I'm not saying it's right. I'm saying for a lot of people it's worse. That's how this game works. Unfortunately.

  • How is 1.5 k/d sweaty? That literally means before I die in every match I get 1 kill and some damage on one other person. Being put into matches with people who consistently drop 10+ kills have placed master/pred when I struggle on gold is insane. In no way should I ever see or be against players like that. You do realize all preds have 3 or 4 k/d and above. If being able to kill 1 person before I die is sweaty then idk how everyone isn't in the very end of that skill distribution ladder. You have go to be trolling me.

  • I'm not gonna argue in favor of the matchmaker. It really is pretty bad. But in your case, here's the thing: 1.5 k/d. That's why you're ending up where you are. I'm not saying that when the matchmaker whittles it down to 0.6 then you'll be back in your properly balanced lobbies. You won't. But still, 1.5 is a thing that I'm not sure you can have and still say "not a major sweat." If it came easy to you in the past then that's great, but now you're seeing the other side of the coin, the game that most of us have been playing since... forever. If I have any advice, it's to stop making an effort in these kinds of lobbies. If the matchmaker sees you trying against 4k/20 players, then it really doesn't care that you always lose. It cares that you're still willing to try. And it will continue to make you try. Until you stop trying. With most players that takes the form of quitting the game. With me it took the form of a lot of quitting of matches. Your experience will get better either way if you have the stomach for it.
