Title: R-99 and CAR SMG Balance Suggestion
I would like to suggest a way to further differentiate the R-99 and CAR SMG.
Although the CAR is performing very well in the current season and may remain strong next season, I feel that the R-99 has generally been the more attractive choice for close-range combat throughout much of Apex Legends' history.
One of the CAR's traditional advantages has been its ability to use both light and heavy ammo.
For example, I often chose the CAR because my teammates were using the R-99, and I wanted to avoid competing with them for ammunition and attachments.
However, since Weapon Arsenals were introduced, obtaining weapons and attachments has become easier. As a result, I feel that this advantage of the CAR is less significant than it used to be.
Because of this, I believe the R-99 and CAR should have more distinct strengths beyond their ammunition compatibility.
I think the Flatline and R-301 are good examples of how two weapons in the same category can have different strengths.
Although both are assault rifles, the Flatline offers higher damage per shot, while the R-301 is generally easier to control. Players can choose between them based on their preferences and playstyles.
Ideally, I would like to see a similar relationship between the R-99 and CAR.
In my opinion, the R-99's greatest strength should be its exceptional burst damage and ability to eliminate enemies quickly.
Rather than trying to compete directly with the R-99 in damage output, I think the CAR should have advantages in other areas, such as:
- Faster reload speeds, including empty reloads.
- Faster weapon handling, such as drawing, holstering, and switching weapons.
This would create an interesting difference between the two weapons.
The R-99 would be better at eliminating an opponent within a single magazine, while the CAR would have an advantage in longer engagements where both players need to reload.
My goal is not to make the CAR stronger than the R-99 overall, but to give both weapons unique strengths so players can choose based on their preferred playstyle.
I believe this would make weapon selection more interesting and meaningful.
Thank you for considering my suggestion.
