AIM assist is cheating. Since when did this game start allowing cheat devices? I can't spend money on such an unfair game for PC. I sincerely hope it dies out like Titanfall someday. When I first played it upon release, it was an exciting and amazing game. Now it's nothing but trash.

It started as game developers didn't have that much ability to think to give the user more control settings, so early titles had one setting. Game developers aren't that good at games (usually), so they put settings in their games that they enjoy. In the early 2000s game developers had to come up with aim assistance software for two main reasons.Analog sticks (potentiometers) were and are still low quality, so the aim assistance was more or less degeneration potential (They knew over time the potentiometer would wear out).The single main reason aim assistance was created and/ or still utilized today is for player retention. It's a marketing technique used by game companies to keep the individual happy. Do what the game shows as good, the player gets more dopamine kicks. That player has better potential to spend more ingame if they're not that far from the rest (skill gap).Basically what I'm saying here is. If the user feels good over and over, they might spend more ingame, than just getting killed back to back. With the average player's mindset on a 10 second attention span (started from mobile devices) game developers have to not only create a good title, but keep that player entertained (control wise). So yeah, aim assistance is a marketing tactic used by game developers to sell more products. Understand, game companies are for-profit businesses with investors, They have to show returns quarterly.A bunch of controller users (all within a closed skill gap proximity) allow that to happen more than a bunch of mouse & keyboard players. Aim assistance might be marketed today to group two different inputs, but don't let the developers and/ or controller manufacturers fool you.Microsoft, Sony and/ or all controller manufacturers rely on profits from these devices. @salvage1212 Aim assist is not cheating, regardless of your view about it.I am a PC MnK player and have to deal with it. it is what it is.Would love to be able to opt out of cross-play and or that there are Console only and PC only lobbies.

Yeah, its cheating. Its like giving person without arm to race. Dont worry, we'll "assist" you. We'll change shifts for you, we'll break for you, we will give you double sized road, you just sit and steer with wheel occasionally. 90% of people that beam me without single bullet missed are people with gamepad, and I check it every god damn time! I wont mind console players to play with their assists, I just want them away from my games!

We sure could use the correct terms, it is not cheating thats for sure. It's an aimbot that is aloud to use.May i use quoternion program to change my rotation which points to the enemy? No i may not use that because it's called an aimbot and it's not aloud to use.So the question why should an aimbot be aloud depending which device the user playing? My opinion it should never be aloud, it is the device owner problem if he/she is unable use the controller which he/she decides to use.

@matzesingt Again, it's an assist to level the playing field.An aimbot is something that does it completely for you, aim assist, well, it assists you.This has existed ever since joysticks were a thing, and now it has entered the playing field for some modern games.Whilst other games might not find it necessary to implement it, some others might because well, it's intended to level the playing field.There are quite a lot of notable differences between these 2 things, in my experience the aim assist in this game is not that comparable to an aimbot.And you don't need perfect mechanical skill to excel in this game, even if you'd get rid of it people would adjust to it without a lot of problems.Again, some tuning is fine, though I don't think it should be completely be removed.

@XHelperZ Ok, cool. Uncalled for by me to call you that. Apologies.

If you play at that level, you would know how important it is just to end a match on positive points.

But, you know, the aa issue only really starts to rear it's ugly head in higher tier comp play. This is why you have everyone from Platinum to Predator complaining about it. The issue is not having to adjust, the issue is that it messes up the whole competitive integrity of the game at those levels. It is just incredibly hard to win 1v1 fights up close when the opponent is using a controller. This has been established by pro players themselves, who operate at the highest level, who know all the exploits. Why, oh, why, do they allow 2 different inputs against each other? One advantage does not cancel the other out, that is not how comp shooters work. Everyone is equal, or we could just leave it and not bother to even call it competitive.

Love this topic.
Let’s look at some facts and make some good deductions. I’ve already seen some fair points raised by both sides.
Aim Assist is a toned down aimbot with some functionalities removed and smoothed.
The intent of Aim Assist is to level the playing field, allowing for cross platform competition.
Console players will almost never get into PC lobbies unless they team with one.
Aim Assist has become a staple of shooters and therefore has some peer pressure effects on developers.
The quality of analog sticks in controllers had gone down this is a purposeful decision made by manufacturers.
There are controllers that are good.
Most controllers are designed to fail.
Aim Assist provides a higher ground floor than PC, but has a much lower skill cap.
Using steam configs for controller in PC is a gross abuse of Aim Assist
Console controllers and PC are balanced from a weighted scale, but only by those means. (The same way a good player will be given two bricks for teammates and thats called good match making)
Aim Assist is a bandage for a bigger issue.
To remove Aim Assist, the skill cap on PC must also be lowered, then we will have a truly balanced system.

@BigMacAttack8u Big mac dude, these are all true quotes by themselves, sure.

But one thing is not true at all, before you take another bite out of your big mac 🙂 : "The intent of Aim Assist is to level the playing field" - It was never the intent at all. Level the playing field of what? Another controller player? The issue here is cross play, and nothing was developed with it in mind, it was 2 platforms just basically meshed together, by request of the community no doubt, but a lazy job still. It just does not make sense to mesh such different things for a competitive game. Apex needs to decide if it's gonna be competitive or not, they need to stop sitting on the fence with this. Personally, I say they should just give up the comp scene, there are just too many unbalanced and broken stuff in the game already at this point to even consider it fair and competitive by anyone who values their sanity.

I thought for a game to be actually competitive in a healthy matter, you'd have to give each opposing forces the same benefits, gear and odds to ultimately extinguish who can put given resources best to use.

To me any BR can't really be competitive in that sense or at least i personally refuse to see it that way, there is just too much RNG involved in a way.

Unless we talk Arenas and stuff, i think that was the closest this game has gotten to competitive play.

@NitoTanaka You are 100% correct and I have been saying this for a long time. Br can never be truly competitive and the way the characters work and then trying to balance teams just adds insult to that further. Thing is they need to decide what they want Apex to be. They keep making changes and trying to stay in that delicious tournament landscape, but let's be honest...it's a meme at this point. Games like CS and Valo take 1st prize here, but then again they are incredibly boring.. Trying to be in this sphere and topping it off with cross play is just hilarious. The least they could do is separate the inputs, the game is skewed enough as it is.

So to wrap things up: No, aim assist is not cheating, it's like stated time and time again to set everyone at eye level in terms of accessibility when it comes to controlls, for example being shot in the back and having to turn 180° and align your target, it's most basic movement but you tell me who can respond to it faster, with Sticks it's surely harder to precisely turn plus set on target, while with M&K it's a flick of the wrist, sure it involves practice on both ends but ultimately M&K is and will always be way more responsive and thats just one little example.
Halo for example has tournaments on a competitive level and they have not only aim assist, they also have so called "Sticky aim" 343, the studio is well aware of this and gave therefor the option to disable crossplay and disabled assistance for PC overall, so you can't just plug your controller into your PC and benefit from the AA from there.
I do understand absolutley that it can be a pain, especially when the R99 laser comes about, but same is very well archivable via M&K, it's harder for us to master surely but therefor console players have the one or the other struggle we don't, might want to take these things into consideration.
In the end it remains a game..treat it as such.

it's incredible how much you are against the consoles(aimassit) but at the same time you make small accounts and turn into smurfs and you don't really stress when it comes to cheaters who play quietly on mnk on linux with cheats on them that you have no way to catch them. "Smurfing" and real cheaters are the real problem .. and I for one would be very happy if cross play was removed because there are few cheaters on consoles and you can't get rid of smurfs anywhere ... and because of smurfs you also find teammates much below the rank in which they reached .. because most of them are carried by smurfs there.

Aim assist isn't cheating by definition as its allowed by the developers, but in reality it is. It's just an aimbot/auto locking mechanism that wasn't allowed before. It's fine to have a little bit of aim assist for controllers to move a little bit, but auto locking clearly destroys the fun and apex had overdid it way too much. As much as a ton of players were complaining, the developers are deaf listening to opinions, locking posts to comments they dislike, perhaps is why they doesnt even improve. In an actual fps game without these aimbots I have like 1.5 to 2 kda, where in apex i was like 0.4? It's just laughable. Yet the fanboys here will tell you aim assist didnt do much you can still do well with mouse blah blah blah a load of bs.

For a professional mouse gamer on fps of course they still can do well, but for the general leisure mouse players aim assist just kind of suck and unfair in all sense. They should at least separate the game/pool for mouse and controllers, nerf it or support mouse.

Aim assist is literally cheating, people pay money for aim assist on PC. Therefore regardless whether you're on console or PC, it's an unfair advantage therefore cheating. Idiot
