Am I crazy for muting my squads each match?

Outside of playing with friends, I’ve grown accustomed to muting my premade squads, especially for ranked. 

It:

  1. Helps me better listen for footsteps from other teams
  2. I don’t need to listen to someone’s phone ringing, dog barking, or other various background noises 
  3. Friends talking nonstop (second and third teammate) 
  4. Avoids getting into meaningless arguments, such as:
    1. ”Why didn’t you rez me bro?! You trash, clown, (insert whatever expletive)!!”
    2. Tries to sound intimidating over a console or PC and calling you a p——
    3.  Spam pings or yells so loud over their mix you can smell their breath because you didn’t want to land in an area with 3+ squads all firing on each other, rendering you unable to even find a weapon

I only ask because my friends I do play with think I’m crazy for doing that. In actuality, I play better solo queuing than with my friends because I’m not used to having to talk AND listen for other teams (I often play by myself).

    Well, if you were playing with Randoms, no, I would totally understand. When I was playing regular on PC, I often muted my squads unless I was playing with someone I know (like @reconzero ).

    The average human that seems to play this game barely qualfies as such, and I don't have time for people's rudeness.

    Playing with people you KNOW though, well, then I agree with @Axs5626Sxa5001 - you are hurting you chances.

    Maybe talk with your friends about cutting back on the background noise (or them getting noise canceling headsets) so you can hear both them AND the game?

    @Kyldenar Oh I agree about the sentiment of playing with your friends. I apologize if I didn’t make that distinction. If I’m playing with friends then yes my mic is on 100%. It’s when I’m with randoms that it’s off.

    @DaDeDimson I had this guy 1 or 2 days ago that went sour real quick after I "took his legend"... I had those dailies with playing 2 times with Wraith. I was the first player in trios, auto picked pre select and he went on a rant, and it was my fault he now had to play Gibby... Because you know he couldn't pick any other legend...sigh

    I only mute if I can hear a teammates music, eating, or bad mic quality. Also can't stand people who pretend they're streaming and talk like they're in a chat session. Otherwise I enjoy chartiing to random people and also enjoy some witty banter. It makes the game fun

    Randoms: options set for incoming chat (voice/text) to friends only. Mute pings and separate jump at the begging of each match. Don't care at all about ransoms.

    @DrWizardoI might catch some flack for this but I recently had a guy come off party chat with his buddy (my third teammate) and act all tough over PlayStation and to get away from him because I was looting too much near him.

    I wasn’t purposely doing it and I just tend to loot really fast and I’m not always watching where my teammates are looting at. But he felt the need to act all hard and I just let him be because I didn’t wanna have my focus ruined by some controller warrior who’s trying to flex for his friends that he told off a random stranger on a video game lol.

    I hate listening/ talking to folks and play a lot better when I mute myself but to each their own. You sorta should be willing to communicate in a BR though

    @AreYouShivering Wait. You jump solo when playing with randoms? You do realize you can activate the "No Fill" option and just play solo right? Honestly, why spoil the game for people that jump into it looking for the SQUAD gameplay experience. If you wanna play solo then play solo and stop ruining the game for other people. You are what's wrong with the game fella
