Apex lacks depth when it comes to abilities.

So legends abilities have evolved a lot since the release. Not only in their mechanism but also in their conception. The very idea of the game being gun based with abilities as an extra element no longer applies to what we see nowdays (And most likely in the future). Instead the game is slowly changing to become based on legends and what can they do in the battlefield. The devs must have realized at one point that the majority of players play the game because they love to play as their favorite legends and use their abilities. You have probably never came across someone who said: I really like apex because of the Flatline!. And as such. I believe it is increasingly important as the game evolves to give depths to abilities and the way they connect with each other. And when im talking about depth I Specifically mean that the ability of a legend should effect other abilities too in a convoluted way. If anyone of you is familiar with overwatch then you would know what im talking about. So for example right now when Bloodhound scan an enemy, It doesnt make them receive more damage or highlight areas in their hitboxes for critical damage. Or when fuse hit someone with knuckle cluster it doesnt make them more susceptible to explosive damage. These are only few examples and im sure that the devs can come up with something better and more fitting and fun. Obviously this needs work from the developers behalf but its crucial for the health and development of the game.

  • Sorry to say, but I subscribe to the old school interpretation of this game. It should be primarily a shooter. Abilities should be a side gimmick and nothing more. Fun, but not the core of the game, and certainly not game changing, or even game ruining, as some of them now are, and as more are sure to become in the future. And the kind of case-dependent interactions you're talking about sound like a whole new level of complexity that I'm not at all sure would make the game more fun - but instead make it more convoluted, less predictable (yes, predictability can be a good thing), and raise the barrier to entry yet again. Can you imagine being a new player and trying to wrap your head around the complexity of this game just in its current state, let alone if it gets even more complicated?

I get what you are talking about, But why not make abilities as important as shooting? Other hero shooter games like OW and Valorant (And a lot more) are taking that route and it didnt leave a negative impact. In fact it made these games a lot more fun imo. As for the level of game complexity. I believe this varies and depends on the player itself. Any game can look unpredictable to anyone if they arent used to it. And im sure Apex in its current state makes a lot of players confused but that doesnt have anything to do the game but rather everything to do with the user itself. A game can be as complicated as atomic physics and people would still be able to understand it should they give it the time and energy and imo a game that is complicated in its core means that it is so much fun and require skill to master. Casual predictable games just dont feel thrilling anymore at least for me. Id rather play a game that is too complicated instead of a game that is too simple so to say.
