I think Apex 2.0 is needed and should focus on getting back to basics (stable connection, consistent sound, dont overthink match making, balanced weapons…) and focus on a good experience because I don’t care how great all the updates are when Im dying behind a completely closed door.
Potential ideas for Apex 2.0:
- Movement shouldn’t be for all legends. I like legends with movement that needs to be intentional (pathfinder grapple, loba bracelet, rev for ex.). You shouldn’t be able to panic your way out of a fight.
- Probably unpopular opinion: I don’t think a system that rewards camping until end game is competitive apex. I think there should be less focus on placement being the goal, but instead it should be viewed as a multiplier to kills to incentives late game kills. Adding random moments in the game where the kp multiplier changes to encourage/discourage fighting could help prevent it from ending too soon with the addition of the removed drop ship
- That being said, I acknowledge the player base that enjoys that play style, so I think a game mode should be available once you hit plat (in a non-SBMM system) where a scrims/competitive game mode opens that prepares people for pro league/pro league format. In this mode, you could start with blue tier loot and zone 1 or 2 with smaller lobbies, depending on player base
I know much of this relies on a healthy player base, but if they want this game to be successful, considerable effort and resources are needed for ranked.
