Apex Legends adding ibmm (input based match making)

How would people feel about ibmm being added to apex?. I know talking about the M&K VS Controller debate is like poking a dead horse with a stick at this point but I would like to propose ibmm be added to apex legends even if it's just for a test period.

The main reason I would like to see this added is because I feel like it could be a stepping stone to entice players who stopped playing apex due to aim assist taking over the game to come back and start playing again, it would also allow M&K players the chance to play against people on the same page my biggest issue with playing M&K right now is close range fights, I fully admit my aim isn't the best but losing 7/10 fights at close range to someone on roller is frustrating and whilst I'm not saying I would fair better against another M&K player at least it would be a fairer fight for both parties.

I have been on both sides of this I used to play Apex on PS4 when the game first game out due to not having a PC at the time, since swapping inputs I've noticed a change in my fight approach I don't feel as comfortable at close range anymore especially at close range during end game fights as I did during my roller days for me its the sense of a few missed shots opens the door for me to be one clipped by my opponent.

This post isn't meant to be a plea or a I hate aim assist get rid of it I'm just curious to see what people think of this idea

Mouse players move the SAME speed. They CAN look around faster, but that doesn't mean they can move faster. Most decent controller players can move nearly identical to what a MnK player can do.

The aim assist is strong in Apex, it's just even more obnoxious in games like BF2042 and Halo. You have to strafe for it to engage. It's incredibly strong if you know how to use it.

Tap strafe being a thing shouldn't negate the discussion around aim assist. "MnK players can tap-strafe, therefore it's balanced". Tap-strafe is near impossible to use in most actual gunfights. Some people like Faide are One in a million players, not everyone can have that internal timing down to the actual millisecond, paired with the mechanical ability to actually use it. Most Pros don't even play using any crazy movement tech. They use positioning and understand the game mechanics. Aim is king in this game. Plus, there's a lot of people using macros to hop around in impossible ways, or just cheating, like no movement penalties.

A mouse will feel better for most people to use, but that doesn't mean you'll play better with it. So let's give incentive for people to start using it more on PC. Like I said earlier, everyone I played with switched to controller, top players switched, pros have switched, there's a simple reason for it, one reason, AIM ASSIST. It needs to go away on PC already.

I'm a fan of them removing Tap-Strafe. You either make things a mechanic for everyone to use, or take it out of the game. On 20 tick servers, it can make tracking near impossible at times. Somehow some people can abuse the lurch to do some weird abrupt movements, that's not fun for 99% of the player base. I bet even the nerds that say "get good" complain about it when it happens to them.

MnK and controller should never play against each other.  In my opinion, the aim assist in apex legends is pretty weak compared to other games and you need lots of firing range practice to get good even with AA.  Also, MnK players move at a much faster speed and can tap strafe to avoid getting shot.  I personally find it easier to shoot when I play MnK, but I understand I'm in the minority on that.   (I started on Switch Joycons, which has a similar feel to MnK since you aim by tilting and can also tap strafe by flicking your wrist, so that may explain why I shoot easier on MnK after switching to PC)

Controller has a good feel, but I usually can't compete against MnK players moving 5x my speed and doing 180s in the air by flicking their wrists.  I also see how controller may have an advantage over MnK in some shots depending on distance.  Since both have huge advantages and disadvantages compared to the other in some situations I agree they need to separate the two inputs.  It would drastically improve the matchmaking in PC lobbies.

    Inputs should be separated.

The majority of the player base is on roller because it makes it easier to be more consistent. I've had numerous friends that were pretty good at using both MnK and rollers, but they almost all exclusively switched to roller in the end. They would also say that it was more fun using a mouse, but not fun when you're losing fights because you missed a couple of bullets.

As a mouse player, the amount of assist in games these days is insulting. I don't care what console players want to do on their platform, but on PC, aim assist shouldn't be a thing in any so called competitive title, and if it is, it shouldn't be tuned to compete at the top levels. You shouldn't be able to go Pro on PC using a controller. That's absurd.

You could spend hundreds of hours using aim trainers, buy the best equipment, and then easily get one-clipped by a mid tier controller player.

Aim assist is the most infuriating thing to happen to PC gaming in the last decade. Fair isn't taking the less accurate input and giving it so much assist so that it can compete at the top levels.

  • There was never a compelling argument in favor mixed lobbies. First, we were told, it was so that friends on different platforms could still team up. Second, which has never been stated but which is obvious, is the big benefit to the matchmaker when it doesn't have to split the base by hardware. I would say that at this point those benefits are long gone. SBMM in this game is already a crap shoot that will almost always assemble a lobby that ranges from legit newcomers to diamond tier players. Or, if you like, silver (maybe gold) to predator. In other words, the skill gaps are wide enough that it may be time to end altogether the pretense of sbmm.

So no, they shouldn't TEST separate lobbies. They should just do it and be done with the debate once and for all.
