Attachment system ideas

Black ops 6 has been getting really creative with their attachments lately, and I gotta say... I'd like to see that in Apex legends. I wish the system wasn't so focused on tiers. I'm not saying there shouldn't be tiers, but I would like it if it wasn't so focused on tiers. I have 2 ideas for an attachment system. Tell me which one you prefer, or if you have an idea to make attachments more interesting.

  1. Keep the current system, but every attachment gives a different effect to different weapons. Examples: The standard stock reduces bullet flinch on the Hemlock and R301, then the same standard stock increases aim movement speed on the R99. The laser pointer gives a binary trigger to the RE-45, then the same laser pointer gives a chance to grant a bullet back for headshots on the P2020 and increase melee speed on the Volt. I think this would make us think more about what weapons we want to equip attachments to.
  2. This system can still have tiers, but tiers will not be the main focus. There's a light stock that increases aim movement speed you can equip to any weapon, but it increases it more in certain weapons but does almost nothing on other weapons. There could be a short mag that holds less rounds. It reloads very quickly on Snipers, it can also be equipped on other weapon types, but it has like a 5% increased reload speed. This system would tell you which weapons each attachment is best on. It may strip out the 1 size fits all factor and complicate things, but it would keep things interesting.

I find that both these systems would make us think more about what works and what doesn't. It would make us settle if we can't find anything. I think it would also make it easier for the devs to come up with new attachments. I know Black ops 6 isn't a battle royale, but I would like to see the Apex legends attachment system be more creative like Black ops 6 in some way shape, or form since Apex legends does derivate from Call of Duty.

  • I kind of get what you are saying & definitely get Apex Legends Needs New & More Attachment.

Your system type sounds very cool! Would love to mix & match combos for guns, style play, fun, etc.

Disadvantage- looting would a be Black Friday Sale as third parties' would barge down the door while looting but worth it imo.

  • The idea that an attachment would do one thing to one gun and something completely different on another, seems to me to be designed to cause confusion. Add in the fact that most attachments already do so little that they may as well do nothing at all, and I'm pretty sure you'd end up in a situation where a player would literally have to have a second screen open so they could wiki something before they pick it up, or otherwise have no idea what it would do or what it's supposed to do.

Maybe this is just me being cranky, but I find the current system already has so many flaws that I'm not at all certain I want the devs to rebuild it - probably in an even worse state than what we have now. And all for the purpose of what? Helping day one players be less bored? I'm a day one player and I'll tell you right now that if they want me to be less bored then they can start putting actual high-value loot on the maps again, and stop relying on the trashy bin reset to make people feel better about all the zero-value loot. And fix matchmaking. And skill assessment. And ban cheaters. And ban secondaries. And do LTMs that are fun instead of the same old "die, respawn, die again, respawn again" garbage we keep getting under different names. Just my two cents.

  • As a guy who hunts and shoots IRL, frankly, Sights/Scopes should NOT be changeable.

Setting a set of sights or a scope for "Zero at range [fill in the blank per gun type and desired optimal range]" is something you can't really do easily "in the field." They don't work that way. With a proper shooting range, targets, a bore sight, etc, it STILL takes anywhere from 3 to 10 rounds to lock in "zero" at 100 yards with a .308 Winchester.

The guns should come with ONE set of sights/scope that you can't swap, and is 'zeroed' for the expected range for that level of zoom/gun type. You want a Sentinel with a 6x and you found one with the 4x/8x? You gotta find a different Sentinel.

Also, frankly, with almost no helmets and no armor on the ground anymore, the loot pool is no longer frustrating. If anything, let's get RID of more attachment categories and roll them into the base gun.

Like stocks. I am not buying a .308 Winchester gun that doesn't come with a stock.
