Shotguns always a good bet as well depending on how they tune them.
All of these depend on what's in the crafter vs floor loot as well as available hop ups, too. For me, I don't really think to craft weapons and go almost 100% with floor loot. - @GavinC85MUFC Use the spitfire if you are new, it requires 0 aim, you can miss two thirds of the mag and still kill someone.

This is like asking which type of hammer is best for basting a chicken. None of them are any good. If you're letting enemies get close enough that your only option is a close-range weapon then you may just as well toss a coin.

The no-mag r99 downs a level five shielded enemy? Maybe if you land every single bullet. Sorry, my friend. My aimbot's in the shop this week.

Devo is definitely the best auto in the game but only if you can find a turbo. That's a pretty big if in my experience.
Nobody's wants to talk about Nemesis? - @BigMacAttack8u When up close (& personal) against the enemy without stating the bleeding obvious weapons with good hipfire is key & as an old player (not a new one) Spitfire probably has the best hipfire even when up against most SMG's & as you mentioned Ammo mags are bigger than other weapons. Best SMG for hipfire I find is the Car with Heavy Ammo.
- @reconzero If you run into someone with red chances are you will have at least a level 2 mag on that r99. When the OP says close range I'm talking super close.
The nemesis is much better at a distance than up close. Flatline is my preferred AR up close. - @GavinC85MUFC For me, its the Flatline. Just cause its my fave gun and I have the most muscle memory with it.
But its a "to each their own" kind of question.
But statistically, the R99 is best up close, but I ain't got that skill. I agree with Happy, shotguns are (and should be) close range weapons. Any pistol in the face, shoot them in the face, will cause damage. However, kill them? I don't think so. I got some Hail Mary shots last week on people fleeing up the Bunny Slope on Storm Point with the Moz shotgun pistol. I hit a lot of them at a great distance and I am a lousy shot in this game. The shotguns not only spread out in a cone but the range is a lot more than it really should be. Oh, I am not telling the devs to nerf it. The guns are fine, just not realistic to this current time-scape.
