Can we talk about what has really happened to the game regarding abilities?

I see a lot of people, mostly pros, complaining about the game becoming too much about abilities. Since the beginning the game has had abilities. This is not new. I think the difference now are the things below-

1- There are a lot of characters with better balancing and many work well together. You really have to pay attention to who the other team has on it. If there is a lifeline, she has to be dropped first or she becomes a real issue. If there is a caustic, he probably needs to die right away as well. Let's use the ALGS as an example. It used to be Pathfinder, Wraith and Wattson was the makeup of every single team. You did not even have to consider others. Path was the only one that could show next zone. Plus he has high mobility and can move his entire team to height. Wraith was the smallest and hardest to hit and could move her entire team without them taking damage. Wattson was perfect for squatting a building as she could fence and her ultimate didn't expire so you could not nade them at all. Now though, in ALGS Gibby is most popular and you now see Horizons, Caustics, Cryptos, Bloodhounds, Revenants and others. So the old way of scanning a beacon and rushing to setup in the final zone is not the way for everyone. Was it really ok to use the original big 3 abilities but now it is not ok?

2- They did dumb down parts of the game related to movement and shooting. Zipline hopping comes to mind. I know there are other examples but they currently slip my mind.

3- Guns are a bit more balanced. Yes, you need a shotgun such as the mastiff up close but overall, you can use a lot of guns for mid range now.

4- Other people got better at fighting. I think this is a huge thing people do not want to admit to. This goes for any game and lots of other things in life. The people that are naturally good eventually get caught up to by people who work at it. The people that are naturals can still stay at the top by working hard, there are just more of them now.

5- In noncompetitive SBMM has really flattened the curve. If you get better at the game, you get better competition so you feel like you are not getting better and want to blame other things.
