Fan Content Policy Query
Hi! I am part of a group wanting to make an Apex Visual Novel/Dating Sim, but we're not sure if it would violate the Fan Content Policy as it is technically a game.
We would not be using any official assets, art or suggesting in any way that the project would be linked to Respawn or EA in anything other than fan-content terms. We would comprise the game of fan-art for all characters and backgrounds, and the game would be entirely free with no options for payment anywhere. We would make it very clear on any and all promotional materials that this game is a work of fan-content and not officially endorsed in any way.
There is a bullet point on the official EA webpage that states “Don’t use EA’s IP to create any knock-off or spin-off games or products.”. Does a visual novel dating sim count as a game in this sense? The game would be a standard visual novel dating sim - 2D with fanart assets with the Apex Legends characters as interpreted by the fan creative team, and would play more like an interactive comic book than a typical video game. We do not intend any copyright infringement, and only wish to show our love for Apex!
Any information would be much appreciated!
