- dSKyNafinchin4 years agoHero (Retired)@Axs5626Sxa5001 I just wish that SBMM worked more efficiently. I should only be matched with people within a certain plus/minus of my stat line (whatever stats the game factors for matchmaking), and that's it. Of course I want to play with people a little better than me, so that I can get better myself. I just get tired of seeing who I am going against or paired up with (pred/master teams. I'm MAYBE a Plat IV tier player?). My favorite matches have been close, competitive ones. Getting trounced or trouncing a bunch of lower level/skill players just isn't fun for me. I'm no IT person, so I've no idea how to tweak the system, and won't even pretend to. Also, I know this complaint has been driven into the dirt, but it's literally my only complaint, as far as matchmaking is concerned.
I enjoy the well-filled lobbies of similar skilled players. Those matches are fun. Win or lose, they are fun. Competition is fun. The problem is, that those matches are so few and far between. Heck, I always feel bad when I see myself paired with someone that's clearly much better than me. I don't want to drag people down.
TL:DR same old complaint about balance. I'm bad, and shouldn't be in lobbies with high tier players. 20 bomb badge? Shouldn't be in my lobby (my highest is 9 kills). 4k badge? Shouldn't be in my lobby (my highest was one lone match just above 2,500 dmg). I'm no where near that skill level, Lmao - @Axs5626Sxa5001 There are a few problems with your post.
1. What's the current formula for SBMM? For the skill brackets? How is the distribution of players across all skills levels? Usually, in order to change something, you need to know what it is first, to determine where it goes wrong.
2. Even if you know the perfect formula, for it to work as intended you need thousands of players in your queue, of all skill levels, to reduce the skill difference within each group of 60 players that form up a lobby. That translates to millions of concurrent players at most times, not just after major updates.
3. There are way too many variables that affect the experience and a lot of them are out of our control. There's no formula to reduce lag and certainly none for making the gaming experience feel exactly the same on all devices.
Personally, I don't see any reason to change the formula, because it will most probably feel the same or even worse. The best thing to do is always trying to improve things on your end in terms of skill, mindset, connectivity, hardware, ergonomy, etc.. - @Axs5626Sxa5001 I'd remove the premade punishment. Yeah I'm selfish. 😈

@Axs5626Sxa5001how about just let the 0 to 100 max damage players play with each other in teams
And give them a good player occasionaly..
But only occasionaly.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but is your official response that you wouldn’t change the current SBMM?
That’s an interesting stance if so— one I didn’t expect someone to take. I think if we could magically poll the entire playerbase, most would say that the current structure needs to change— even if they don’t know exactly how. - @hayhor Lol. Ironically, there are MANY people who think the premade punishment is deserved. People are pretty resentful of 3-stacks.

I hear you. Do you spend most of your time playing pubs or ranked?
I know plenty of lower tier players that have an overall better time exclusively playing ranked. YES you will encounter smurfs, but they are actually far less smurfs in a low tier lobby than preds in your average pub I bet.
I have said this for years— those who really want to minimize the chances of seeing stronger players should play the mode with the most efficient SBMM. Ranked SBMM is far from perfect but it’s definitely better than what you’re seeing in pubs. @Axs5626Sxa5001 I'm not sure any change to mm would change the way the game is played. I went in no fill pubs to quickly finish a daily challange this evening and there was only 15 left before the first circle had closed. I have no idea how a change to mm could stop this hot drop Henry debacle.
- @OldTreeCreeper Every game I played on worlds edge with my friends tonight was the same. 4 squads (mine plus 3 others) left before round one closed. Almost everyone dropping fragment and premade monster squads squashing everyone in their path afterwards.
Over the weekend a 784 win ash with her premade rolled my team like it didn't exist. Think about this.....784 wins in this season. And it's not like my friends are slouches. They both play til diamond solo in a short time every season. I think the biggest hurdle to mm is the nature of the game being a BR that constantly needs 60 players at a time. As for why the mm is almost non-existent in arenas is a whole new discussion.
My suggestion would be to lessen the servers for each area. Just for tokyo, we have 6 servers. Lessening the servers would increase the player pool and hypothetically make it easier for the matchmaker to look for similarly skilled players. It may have have some technical implications though and I have no idea what I’m talking about. Lol.
