Legality and banning concerns

Am i legally allowed to modify the config files for apex legends to bind more than one command to a single key, such as making my crouch button press to toggle crouch as well as hold to crouch on the same button. Keeping in mind that no alteration i wish to perform will give me better movement or cheat in any way, but in fact is only changing which button does what ( which can already be done) and decrease the amount of buttons required for actions needed. My reason for this is an xbox controller can use the X button to interact, use alternate interactions, and reload whereas the default pc controls require 2 or 3 buttons to be pressed for each. I simply want to know if combining controls via the config (.cfg) files will get me banned or if i am allowed to do so as you can already alter what control is binded to each individual function and am not doing anything that i cannot already do in game except bind multiple commands to one key which isn't currently available. Another example of the modifications I will perform is making the choose health item press and hold to choose item and then single tap to use that health item I chose as you would on controller or making 1 key click to change weapons and hold to holster weapons. If i am allowed to do this i also need to know if i ever wished to participate in a tournament, would i be able to use this during the event as it is only changing keybinds. Thank you for your time and any feedback is helpful

While you intentions appear benign, it would be easy to misconstrue them, one adjustment to a config file is much the same as another. So with that in mind, all I know is the following:

"When you access or use an EA Service, you agree that you will not:"

"Modify any file or any other part of the EA Service that EA does not specifically authorize you to modify."

    https://www.ea.com/legal/user-agreement

Adjusting config files has been allowed in the past in tournaments, but it was specifically allowed for in the rules for those tournaments, but not in recent tournaments.

Scripts and macros that give an advantage are obviously cheating.

"We ask everyone to play within the rules of the game and refrain from tampering or using cheats"

    https://www.ea.com/security/amp/news/eaac-deep-dive
You can only fiddle with the in game settings, it is a good rule not to get yourself banned now or in the future.

    "Keep Things Fair
Play games the way that they are meant to be played.
Don’t: Use exploits, cheats, undocumented features, design errors, bugs or problems to get a leg up on others"

    https://www.ea.com/commitments/positive-play/charter#keep-things-fair

And as a word of warning from Hideouts:

@CombinedMars31 So you trying to use mnk? Sorry I thought this was about controller.
Steam controller settings are only for controller ofc.

What kind of keyboard are you using ? You will have to either use configs then or you could use something like razer synapse to remap your keyboard. Condition is ofc to have a razer keyboard 😅

@CombinedMars31 How about you just plug in your keyboard and mouse and only use in game settings? Messing with ANY files can get you potentially banned for cheating.
  • I think it should be okay to modify game config files because they can disable any command or any config file whenever they want. But no one can guarantee that you will not get banned for that. But I don't think no one ever got banned for modifying the config files. I believe gdolphn using game configs for super glide (same button for jump and crouch) and he never got banned for that.

But I would never risk using external software such as razer synapse, steelseries gg or even steam config for keybinds or macros. They ban people for appropriate Steam names so they can also ban people for appropriate steam configs.

@el7uarvszheoNothing wrong with razer synapse, EAC cannot fish arround in that software and if it could it would never dare to ban someone for using driver software and remapping buttons…if it wasn’t allowed they could blacklist the software but they dont, and if they would attempt to do that the boycott of razer players over the globe would make them change their mind.
Steam controller config is a feature of steam, it got enabled by steam for the game and will be somewhere written down in the contract between ea and steam. If it wasn’t allowed it wouldn’t be enabled So again nah eac will not dare to do fishy stuff…

You can't get banned for modifying videoconfig. Respawn can disable any setting whenever they want on config files. The link on your player was probably just a cheater and trying to get away with it.

    Even imperialhal is doing it:

TSM ImperialHal on X: "Little PC Apex tip for FPS/Clarity: Type Saved Games in windows Search Bar -> Respawn -> Apex -> local -> videoconfig then find "setting.csm_enabled" "1" and change it to "setting.csm_enabled" "0" , this basically reduces/gets rid of shadows completely also a side note 1/2" / X (twitter.com)

It is possible to get banned for razer synapse or other software. They can also do anti recoil macros. I don't know if game have detection against it but if you get caught on some live stream you will get banned. Also too many inputs that is not possible by configs or by hand might get you banned. Because unlike ingame configs respawn has no control over them.
