New Season, Same Terrible BP System

So, as we all know, nothing really changed with the BP since that S7 update to this new system. And, well. It's still terrible, in my opinion. If you're not burning through those challenges left and right, progression feels almost non existent. Yup, 5K XP per Star, 50K XP per BP level. Oh, yeah, so good times right here...

*Sigh*

This just sucks, man. I hate it. I really do. I feel like I have to play every day, and make sure I'm doing all my challenges (some being easier/less time consuming than others), or I just sit there hovering at the same number. Why? Because XP is near worthless and if you're not making progress on a challenge every match, then the BP levels feel grindy and sluggish and frustrating because you feel your time and effort is portional to the rewards given.

Jesus, man. I know the XP system from S6 and such wasn't perfect, but I preferred it to this. I preferred it to matches that make me feel frustrated and discouraged because I didn't do "X damage with Y gun" or got to revive a teammate or pop off a care package or get a care package gun or whatever. Nope. Just some pittance of XP to put towards my 5K star and 50K BP level.

I mean, I'm sure I'll finish my BP. I have so far. But, it feels less about "enjoying myself" or "having a good match" and feels more like I need to make a quota. I need to check off those challenges on those lists if I want to see any real progress on my BP. And, When you don't get matches that do that, for whatever reason, it just feels bad. It feels like your time and effort is wasted.

Like I said, I'll probably finish it, but I'm not happy about this system. I wasn't when S7 started, I wasn't after the tweaks they made, and I'm still not happy with it now. And, if this is what the BP system is going to be like, from now on, I don't really know how long this game will keep my attention. Don't get my wrong, I like the core game play and the Legends and all that, but this system just doesn't feel good to me. And, if I'm not feeling good while I play the game, then whats the point?

*Heavy sigh*

I skipped half of last season and i finished BP in like 10 days, because game let's you do challenges from previous weeks. If you want to finish BP fast, you must do challenges. But i am pretty sure you can completely ignore challenges, simply play game (3 evenings in a weak) and you will finish BP.

@SlivPTS This is exactly right. 10 hours a week and you will finish it without issue without consciously doing challenges.

Even if the math is correctly, there's what, 12 weeks in a season? So, 10 hours a week times 12 weeks, that 120 hours. 120 hours to finish one BP without doing challenges doesn't seem a bit excessive? That doesn't seem sluggish and grindy? Really?

    *Edit*

And, even if that's on par with the old system (I don't know if it is or not), at least the old system *felt* better match to match, day to day, week to week. Yeah, It wasn't perfect, some of the challenges were insane like getting 10,000 damage with one specific gun and the 54K XP level wasn't fantastic, but until that point, it always felt good to me. I'd like to feel progression in that system far more than this one for the reasons I listed in my previous comment.

@JonStriker126 Mate, how much do you play? I played much less last season and still finished with a few weeks to spare. Like @hayhor said just play normally (dont worry about your challenges) just pick whatever weapon u can on drop and it will work out xd

@JonStriker126 If it is a game you like to play, no it doesnt seem grindy. Most gamers game more than that in a week.

Fair enough. But I would argue that one of the things to "like" about some games, find fun/enjoyable, is leveling up and earning things (in Apex's case, BP levels and cosmetics).

There are players that like playing games that have a good sense/pace of progression and rewards for doing so. And I just don't feel the new BP system's sense of progression is well paced. It feels sluggish/grindy to me.

And, honestly, for me, thats an important part of a game. It's not just about the "shooty shooty bang bang" for me. I feel like everything in Apex matters. Core gameplay matters, lore matters, cosmetics matter, etc. If they didn't, then we would just be playing grey blobs with no looks or personality (basically, Fire Range dummies). But, we're not. It's all there for a reason.

And I have issues with one of the "puzzle pieces" that make Apex, Apex, to me. And, as much as I like the core game play and the comics and the Legend personalities and voice lines and all that, sometimes the game just doesn't feel good to play, because the progression on the BP feels sluggish. And I don't like how it's done.

Basically, for better or worse, I do play this game partly for the cosmetics. And I don't think that's a bad thing. So, when there are issues (in my opinion) with the system in which we aquire said cosmetics, it impacts my liking of the game and the enjoyment I have with it. It's just how it is for me (and some others) that play and invest time and/or money in this game.

I like Apex a lot. It was my most played game of 2020, and it wasn't even close. But the new BP system does at least feel more grindy to me, and I did have trouble finishing the last one (aka I didn't). 10 hours a week isn't that small an amount of time to take out of a finite 'leisure time' budget, and with the new system hours spent on Apex feel less rewarding. I guess I'm just not gamer enough.

  • @JonStriker126 I am lvl 11 and I played like 3 days. This system is way faster, and challenges are way easier. I have no idea what you ppl complain about.
  • @JonStriker126Y agree it should be multi way to get "Xp" and "lvl"

like wining give u 5lvl, or play as team without disconnect give u 5 lvl, wait untill ur teammate respawn u give u 7 lvl ,play at weekend give u free lootbox

and so on I think it will improve this game and will incarace playerbase
