Opinions on Sentinel sniper rifle

So what are your opinions on Sentinel sniper rifle? Personaly i think something is lacking. The best thing it has ATM is bullet travel time, damage is good but not great. Charging it with shield battery seems kind of pointless. Yes it's great that you can break all armor with one shot when it's charged but... early game unless someone is lucky most people run with max blue armor (without charging 65dmg is good enough for blue armor), mid game it's decent and endgame it gets mostly pointless again as snipers arent that great in smaller circles. What are your personal opinions on this weapon?

  • @tommor1988I can't remember who but someone said the gun is very situational. I would generally agree that it is. It's strength is the mid-long range and there it's definitely a a very strong gun. The body shots could use a slight buff due to its slow fire rate. But again this is a sniping gun, accuracy should mean everything with it.

I sort of view it as a nerfed Kraber. It can 2 shot kill someone if you land 2 head shots. Even if they have purple armor.

I personally prefer the G7 still, even though it's an assault rifle. I find that most gun fights happen in the mid-short range. Extended long range shoot outs are just asking to get third partied in this game. This is especially true in ranked.. People are looking for easy kills and will flock towards third party opportunities.

My friends and I have had the most success with the sentinal if 1 person the team carries it. They hang back a bit and snipe, while me and the other player push. The Sentinel player breaks shields for us, we finish them off. But it's a risky play because the sentinel sniper is a sitting duck. If we get third partied we are already at a disadvantage because it's just the two of us.

The majority of the gun fights I get into are at choke points and during ring closure, which is close combat. Now I have been in situations in which no one on my team had anything for long range. No longbow or choked triple take.. We then come across a team who does and is in a position to use it. That is where the Sentinel has shined and it has pushed my squad into very difficult situations. But those situations just seem to be rare in this game, at least in the areas we frequently drop and hang around.

@DarthValtrex Yea body damage wont get buffed, it would make charging with shield battery useless. I think it may be interesting if they reduced pure body damage to lets say 30 and while charged it could always break armor + deal base damge. Right now it doesnt seem that good compared to longbow (increased headshot damage) or even charge rifle. Right now we get what? Max 35 damage increase on body shot at the cost of a shield battery for a few shots. If the enemy doesnt even have a purple/gold shield it gets even worse.

@tommor1988 There has already been some discussion about changing it from shield battery, to cells. I think that would be a solid improvement.

I’m with you, I prefer the longbow and G7. They are just better overall guns IMO.

The gun is a starting point. They’ll gather feedback and data then buff/nerf accordingly. I was landing headshots for 120 damage with the Sentinel. If they have blue armor one more tap to the body and they are knocked... If me and a squad mate are shooting at the same target they are done almost instantly.

But overall I feel like mid and longe range guns in this game just won’t be popular unless they have 1 shot knock capabilities like the kraber. The majority of the fights are in short/mid range.
  • Longbow is just outright better. Longbow shoots significantly faster, sways less and still requires the same 2 shots to the head to kill.

The battery charge is interesting but also pointless, as headshot with it does absolutely nothing extra. I think that's the part where this weapon could be made interesting, e.g., always do at least some part of extra damage when shooting charged vs shields.

So far most of my testing comes from shooting range, but I do feel that longbow is so much better, that my opinion is rly not going to change after using sentinel more ingame.

P.S. I haven't measured weapon swap time yet, but it doesn't feel faster either.

Its super accurate. However, like someone else said above, the last thing this game needed was another Sniper Rifle. Especiall on this map. Player who play as Pathfinder love to graple to high ledges and just fight from a distance. They should remove the Longbow from the game which is just a terrible weapon and increade the reload speed on the Sentinel between shots.
