Rampart needs help
Rampart Needs a bit of help
spent pretty much the entire last split playing rampart and I just wanted to give my thoughts on Rampart and hopefully get the attention from the dev team.
Rampart isn’t weak shes just “fair”, in a game where other characters are not. so it leaves her in this weird place of not being terrible but also not really excelling if that makes sense. The other controller characters provide immediate value, can control fights without much set out or are more intuitive, but most importantly they force a reaction out the enemy. so in her class she doesn’t really have an area she shines in.
**Main problems:**
there is a million ways to deal with amped cover, it feels like shes still balanced around the state of the game 2-3yrs ago when there wasn’t many options.
Her abilities are “manual” not passive so value isn’t guaranteed like the other controllers
she doesn’t force or change the tempo of a fight she only amplifies a position.
other controller legends can do and achieve similar results just easier and more consistent. she has many limitations the others don’t on top of not being as fluid.
**The goal:** make her advantages more reliable and usable in fights, without completely reworking her.
**My suggestions:**
AMPED COVER
1. Up the health on deployment and how fast it actually sets up. not to the point where it’s impossible to kill her but just enough to were going to place a cover mid fight wont be as punishing. that allows for more options for the rampart player especially caught out.
With all the movement in the game the speed of deployment has to match, it was alot of times where there enemy runs past the wall, we have a gunfight and the wall just now finishes building. So many times where I want to put the shield down but ill miss an opportunity if i do so, and for a character built on dishing out damage those extra seconds of downtime makes or breaks her.
2. Infinite ammo and reload spend should be base kit the game is just too fast for it not to be. amped speed was a great addition but again its not fluid its limited on when you can actually have access too it. other legends do not have this handicap, amped speed should be proximity based like reload speed and infinite ammo. The proximity range of these effects needs to be doubled.
multiple reasons the proximity range needs to be increased main reason is standing directly behind the shield is not optimal most times and being that close just makes you a sitting duck most times. limited area of maneuvering for the effects or buffs and also everyone can just side step the shield and theres still no value. this limitation is like if caustic got slowed by his gas or wattson couldn’t touch her fence.
Then unlike the other controllers its not passive so either you risk just getting fried instantly for slight benefits or the wall is just there for decoration.
that is so frustrating so please double the range I should have the advantage anytime im next to my cover because right now its still pretty much even ground unless your incredibly intensional in your placement. Which again takes time it slows you down just to use your abilities. Amped speed, reload, and infinite ammo need to be cooked in and proximity based. Amped speed should increase strafe speed as well so she can actually fight around her shields base kit or in a perk.
these changes already make her wall more fluid and intuitive to use with guaranteed value.
3. MAKE THE WALLS SLIGHTLY BENT AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE.
This change is small but makes to world of difference you have way more of a fighting chance behind the shield. you have more of an opportunity to actually punish and use the angles she’s created to take advantage of. it is so effective i trained myself to put walls angled but that takes time to do and will dramatically increase her strength without doing much. this one change is all want if the other things are out the way 😭.
**PASSIVE: add reverse hipfire when shes using lmgs.**
**Sheila is fine in its current state maybe a couple more rounds of ammo but thats it.**
**PERKS:**
Her blue perks should be removed because reload speed and infinite should just be base shield. and assault pack isn’t very useful regardless.
NEW BLUE PERKS:
1. “momentum”
adds more flexible movement to amped speed( so it doesn’t only work in a straight line and the timer is extended).
2.”hold up”
Any enemy that touches the amped part of the shield will be stunned and will take 20 damage.
PURPLE PERKS STAY THE SAME.
i think these changes will make rampart stand out, more fluid and streamlined without making her too OP.
