Re: Apex Legends Abandon Penalty
I know there are a lot of posts about the abandon penalty, and quite often players complain about it when they see that there is no chance whatsoever to be revived or respawned. In the latest patch, you won't get a leaving penalty after a 1.5 min of waiting when they pick up your banner. That's a great system.
There are situations in the game that you just need to get a penalty for, like blatantly leaving the match at the start. But there are also situations in which it is impossible to respawn a player (no respawn beacons left or too dangerous, etc) which results in a player having to sit and wait for a while. Those situations are the hardest to make an automated system for.
So what about making a voting system, in which a downed or dead teammate can apply to leave to the other teammates. The teammates can then decide if they grant you leave permission or not.
For example, your team is running to get into the ring and you're under heavy fire. You're a bit behind and get a kraber to the head. You're downed far into the zone, which is zone 3 and deals lots of damage. Your team got into safety, but you are just waiting to die in the storm.
You wait a bit and also die from damage of the storm so you spectate your teammates. There is no way they are getting your banner, there is also not a safe respawn beacon left. So you just gotta wait.
Instead, you press ESC -> apply as leaving. Your teammates both get a pop-up, asking them to vote YES/NO if they want to give you permission to leave. They both acknowledge that there is nothing you can do and then you get two times YES, so you wish them good luck and leave the game.
What do you think about that? Seems pretty fair to me. Of course, there needs to be a few more rules (you can only apply for leaving once, you can only apply after being dead, both teammates need to vote yes/no and if one of them doesn't vote, you can repeat to ask it after 20 seconds).
