- @C0nfusias It's fun when you are forced to smurf in Silver/Bronze because Respawn keeps giving you tier demotion. Perfect ranked system, am I right?
I'm just inside Plat and my regular squad-mates are both Gold 1. We were trying to get them both into Plat yesterday (2021/03/15) and ran into a level 58 Plat 1 twice, and a level 50 diamond 1 player. If they would just crack down on smurfing in ranked I'd stop complaining. Something has to give. If we isolate the debate to ranked only, smurfing circumvents SBMM, and as such, can only be considered cheating, which in turn becomes a violation of the TOS. I'm losing my patients. The developer Ignoring it for this long is becoming akin to acceptance.
- @C0nfusias I don't know what Respawn can do. Other games have smurfs as well. Can you name a game where they had a solution for this?
- @Cheese9Man @C0nfusias If someone drops 4k in Plat lobbies, send him straight to Pred lobbies(just an example) . Problem solved. If I remember correctly, Riot does this in Valorant.
Here is a piece from a Valorant blog:-
'Smurfing always sucks, especially when you have rank on the line. While it’s hard to stop smurfing entirely in a free-to-play game, we are taking action to combat it. Right now we have a behind-the-scenes system for Unrated as well as one that applies to Iron through Diamond ranked players. The latter tracks an individual’s performance and notices when a player makes a highly disproportionate impact in a game. We then quickly boost them to harder matches and higher ranks in Competitive. Smurfing sucks, yes-- but there is nothing much u can do about it.
@C0nfusias There is not a single Anti-Cheat engine that prevents smurfing so it can’t be considered cheating.
Also you wouldn’t say a pro quarterback playing in a backyard skirmish a cheater. Sometimes people want to enjoy the game without all the pressure.
@DarthValtrex There are smurfs that use the username “IMASmurf” so that’s not being dishonest. As to being unfair... that’s a hard argument to make since the game allows multiple accounts and places new accounts at low levels. Also, if a PRO player joined the game for the first time and dominated the game you wouldn’t call that unfair you would cheer them on. So what’s the difference?
Furthermore you could make the argument that people smurf to practice under less extreme conditions weather it be a new weapon or ability.- DarthValtrex5 years agoHero (Retired)
@d0JuTsu It's one thing to be a new player, you'll be instantly bumped up into lobbies for your skill level. That's not smurfing.. Smurfing is making fake accounts to get around SBMM. It's entirely different to create endless accounts to PUB stomp noobs because you want easy matches.
None of your points or arguments make any sense or hold any ground. You're simply trying justify poor behavior right now. The name on the smurf account does not matter and I never said anything about honesty did I? The entire goal of smurf accounts is to get around SBMM.
It's literally no different than being a school yard bully and picking on kids who are smaller than you. It's the exact same concept. You're pushing around people who stand 0 chance at surviving the match against you, all so you can have a bit of fun. It's the exact same thing school yard bullies do.
The smurf accounts do get deleted, I know players who have had their smurf accounts locked/deleted. - @d0JuTsu Considering I've no interest in football, and could not tell one pro from another, if I was in a backyard game and some random was dominating because he's a pro? Yes, 100%, I'd call that cheating. But let's follow your analogy further shall we? Say a pro or even college level football player wanted to go back to his high school and jump into a game, would he be allowed to do so? What if that game was 'ranked' such as a district or state title game. I realize the comparison is a bit extreme, but the analogy tracks IMO. Preds, Masters, and even some Diamonds are the equivalent of Pro & Semi-Pro level players and should be treated as such.
It’s really not at all.
But the real problem is Sbmm nonsense. If there was no sbmm and no ranking there would be no need to ever smurf.
Since people want sbmm, they should enjoy their regular and heavy and well deserved dose of smurfing. While I don’t do it, I love every time I see it happening.
