Stop the splits?

I finally made platinum after years of play! Yippee! It was so hard getting those last few points but I had my best game ever and won the match (my two teammates carried me most of the way but I came through in the final ring). I feel I earned this rank this time. I made masters once before but that was the season everyone did.

Apex is a great game and I love it, but I think I’ve decided to stop playing Apex and video games in general as I engage instead on a new personal endeavor.

But I have a suggestion about ranked mode.

Perhaps I don’t understand the reasons why ranked mode has to be done the way it is with splits and rank drops (lose your rank after a split) but I wish it was different, as follows. I do not like losing my rank after a split. It’s a major motivational killer for me. Other players may disagree.

In short, stop dropping our ranks. Instead do it like chess ratings. Let us keep our rank so we can defend it as we try to climb higher.

if we don’t play for a while, we lose rank, maybe a little each day we don’t play. Right away Respawn creates a way to motivate players to keep playing.

Otherwise, 33% of our matches are played against similarly ranked players. 33% of them are played against players of the next higher rank so we can learn from better players and rank up if we win enough. And 33% of them are played against players of the next lower rank so we can have fun getting Ks and wins (or drop in rank if warranted).

I don’t know what the algorithm would be to cause a player to rank up or down in such a system. Respawn EA could figure it out. Lots of other tiny details too. You get the idea.
