There are a lot of ways to balance her but it would make her less fun. Because basically no lie:
Her passive is fly letting you get above heads to shoot down easy
she has area effect stun missiles
she has redeploy AND reveal meta whenever she drops
That’s really too much for one character. Think about that and compare to Path (who i dislike but this is about balance)
I would take away both reveal and stun completely. And yeah, that’s right it’s less fun. But fair.
@hayhorYeah yeah, says the Valk main who had lots of wins at her expense while saying nothing in the meantime...
She can FLY. Enuff said.
No other legend had this ability ever and even lesser abilities were cried about. She can move a whole team across the map, literally. As I recall you were opposed to Wraith doing a fraction of this, but since you main Valk it wasn't a real issue until someone brought it up? Lol, come on dude.
You seem like a good guy, and I personally like you, but really, as a top xp author, do you and your friends actually listen to yourselves?- @E9ine_AC I view paths grapple as taking more skill. Paths is a tactical. Valks is a passive. The cooldown is also longer. Let's use the open air building as an example. Valk can quickly fly about to any level and keep doing it as her passive recharges pretty fast. Path you need to grapple and then wait for cooldown.
I do think valks can be shotdown much easier than grappling paths as they move slower. It's a tough balance. - Kyldenar4 years agoSeasoned Ace
Here's a better idea, instead of nerfing Valk, buff everyone else to keep up?
Though the current pick rates don't indicate her being super broken...

She's top 4, but then everyone else drops off sharply. That both indicative of the sheer number of legends, and the fact that in a game about mobility and shooting, no surprise the top 6 have buffs to their mobility. The only one that doesn't is Bloodhound (except in Ult) but his kit makes him too good in the wallhack meta.
Also, Valk's "flight" is slow unless bursting, which limits range. Any valk on a long flight is a really big clay target waiting to be shot down.
I say "flight" in quotes because the ceiling is really low. It's more jump jet assisted controlled leaping/falling. - @KelRiever If you remove the stun from the tactical the tactical becomes completely useless. Before I played valk I mained caustic. A character with zero movement ability (unless you are taxi using the ult spam cheat). I never ever died due to valks tactical. Why? Because if behind cover and one used it on me I didn't panic and run from cover. I used a shield cell. As valk the only people I kill using it are the ones that panic.
The scan thing is nice but I don't see it as OP. You are alerted if a valk is flying and if that valk drops on you they are stunned so you should kill them. @hayhorOK, but, it does not really account for Valk specifically if you play like (for the lack of a better word, sorry) a coward while using Caustic. No other legends let's you hide like he does, so unless you play like that, what else is there? Unless you play Watson or some weirdo no one uses really.
- @Sand_spitter Not sure what xp has to do with anything. Also not sure about the wraith comment.
Also I gave ideas on how to nerf her if you read what I said. - @Sand_spitter I didn't play like a coward as Caustic. I liked to push teams with him. If it was a multi way fight then I'd bunker up. If you have played caustic you know you are twice the size of everyone but gibby so running around in between multiple teams doesn't make sense.
@Kyldenar buffing the rest of the characters with things that make them more intersting is, of course, the ideal. The problem is there are core game designs that would require insane buffs, and so much more work in this case.
Slow flying has not been a problem, that's completely under a good player's control. It also is compensated for adding a much higher firing plane for attackers, which does mean something when you are trying to aim. Also, delay before liftoff for ult is manageable.
But back to this buffing thing, I've been screaming about it for defensive characters forever now, and it wasn't even Valk that blew them up, it was map design and Horizon, the original get to higher altitude easy character. I think people forget how much of an auto pick she was. Respawn's meta SUCKS right now, and height is one of the big reasons. Scan meta is another. Valk has both.
If you want to go on buffing like 10 other characters, that is absolutely cool by me. In the meantime, tho, Valk is super broke. I mean, I love her, she's awesome, but she's over the top now.
Buffing Defense characters: Each one of Wattson, Rampart, Caustic and Gibralter get instant aimbot on their guns when other characters are in the air because of Horizon's passive or Valk's ult :P
- @hayhor ah, I see. I didn't read your last comment properly. I see what you mean, there is a way to counter that attack by not moving and using a shield cell, but it does not mean that character is balanced or fair.
The Wraith comment was that you, as a top xp contributor was routing for her nerf, while it was never necessary to the extent we saw. In fact it actually hurt the game. So what does that tell us? Valk is fine with obvious flaws yet you say nothing because you play her? I refer to topics xp bc it means people agree with you. That either means the community can't run their own game or it means that upvotes are meaningless. Personally I always thought upvotes held some sort of weight.
