Why apex is not fun right now. (in my humble option)

I've been playing apex for quite a long time. About 4000hrs right now. And last spilt was boring and stressful ever for me.

I know I'm not the only one that feels this way because there is large amount of player count drop, many players on twitter says same thing.

But what I felt interesting and made me write this post is because I didn't saw anyone thinking same reason for this as I do.

So here is my option.

There is a lot of problem in apex right now. Such as cheater, xim, controller(not the controller it self, a whole debate around it), etc...

But this kind of problem is not something new. We had this problems from start of the game. And I understand that this kind of things are not something easy to fix.

Those are not reason why game is not fun. We have one thing that changed this time. Devs don't buff something. They do but it is very tiny and does not have any effect on meta.

BUFF ANYTHING. I mean not some legend or weapon. Anything. It can be any legend or weapon.

This is not a fix for problems we have. Problems I listed above still needs to be fixed. But I think this will fix NO FUN in the game.

You might not understand this right away. So here's brief explanation with picture to help your understanding.

Because old meta was nerfed, you don't want to use them. So you pick new meta legends / weapon. But those are not something new. It was same thing that considered bad last meta.

And now you have to use them because old meta you enjoyed got nerfed. Remember L-star meta, r9 meta, smg meta, nemesis meta? They was very strong but It was fun to use and apex was fun to play. To give a example take a look at League. They have a lot of OP things, but imagine they get nerfed to the ground and suddenly you have to use 3,4 tier ones.

That is not fun.

I think main reason meta shaped this way is because pros wanted to. And I also understand that they want fair competing experience.

But this kind of meta is just going to and at every legend / weapon to the ground. If you want every gun to feel the same and have same balance, go play Quake LG duel. That is for you.

Current meta turns pubs, low ranked lobby to algs. And people playing those do not want same experience and stress as proleague.

I think that is why apex is not fun right now (at least for me). This is just my option and everyone can have a different option so feel free to say something else here.

@raphi0099 I agree with some and disagree with some. I agree the lack of drastic meta shifts can hurt the game for some. But for people like me, I prefer a balanced game. For a long time apex has done this well. Right now tho I'd say guns are as unbalanced as they can be. If you don't run a Havoc you aren't really trying.

Speaking of legend meta, in regular gameplay, not algs or pred level, most legends are usable, assuming the user's skill level is high enough. As an Algs viewer tho, I'm tired of the bang blood cat meta we've been watching for close to a year. The changes to these characters are too slow. And I do not even believe the update today will remove bang from meta.

All this being said, my play time on Apex has gone way down. My reasons are this though-
MM is poor. I want tighter MM. I will gladly wait a couple minutes for a match to get teammates and enemies of my level.
The maps I like seem to rarely be in rotation. This is both for BR and MT. For me half the maps are poor.
Other users ruin the game. All the hot dropping has gotten old.

I think I didn't quite clearly write my post. I also love to see game to be balanced. But I think balancing need to be done with some buffs. Currently havoc is very strong and needs to be nerfed. But at the same time there is no gun cames close to havoc. They need to buff some other guns. Devs are scared of buffing because they might create too op gun / legends. Meta shift and creating op and balancing it is healthy for the game. I also do agree lgend meta right now is very balanced for regular gameplay. But I'm tired of seeing this same legends in my ranked. I want to see some legend meta shift in high level game play. I have mixed option on last one, tighter MM in pubs is just going to be pred lobby for some people. I do agree ranked MM have some works to do.

Well, Mixtape keeps getting degraded in fun. First auto shield-regen gone, then shorter Control matches, then they add kraber to Gun Run, and now abysmal short TDM games. 🤡 Oh, and the extremely boring... what's it called? The one where you have to hold zones, they added to take more time away from Control and TDM.
Then we have the BR problem: Hot-dropping, 5 squads left Round 2. Then they add assisted jumping in ALGS, the one mode where they actually spread out on the jump! Apparently no one at Respawn has never played Trios, which should be the first mode to get assisted jumping, as +70% of the playerbase doesn't understand how it works.
I guess we got quads today? Sounds fun, now we can have 2 squads left round 2 instead. 🤡

I won't argue with the meta argument, but I will say that, for me and the majority of players in the average ranges of skill and gameplay, buffs and nerfs that tilt the meta one way or another... they're pretty meaningless. If the 1% want their game mixed up with new stuff then great. Let 'em have it. Normal players will continue to play whatever they want and their success or failure won't hinge on a mag that has an extra bullet or a tactical with an extra three seconds of cool down. That's predator level stuff. Even the havoc, which everyone says is unstoppable this season, I almost never see in the field, and it doesn't seem any more lethal than before, either shooting it or being shot by it.

What makes the game less fun for me is that matchmaking continues to be based on some formula that involves skill but involves it very loosely or tangentially. Until matchmaking is re-designed to take play style and match goals into account then the results will continue to be pretty uninspiring.

Yeah, lockdown sucks. But tbh if hate Hot-dropping and more competitive experience, you can play ranked.

I can not agree you saying gun balance does not effect majority of players. When I was new player I remember me trying to pick a gun that feels good for me. Even new players knows p2020 and mozambique suck after few games. I do think new players need to match with new players not get instantly into pred lobbys, but if you're out of rookie area you sometimes encounter them. There is no way you can fill pubs with 60 preds.

@raphi0099 I have no interest in ranked. Remove the ranks, points, abandon penalty, and so forth then okay, I'll play ranked. I just want to actually play the video game.
A BR game is RnG heavy, you don't need to add more RnG by making poor drops and give worse players a greater chance of defeating you on pure luck. Makes zero sense.

PS. Rookie-Gold more or less plays the same as Trios anyway. And now you can't leave, because you're in a ranked game.

@CCbathwater I never thought Rookie-Gold was like that. And I get it would really suck. I kind of get what you what. It reminds me of "unranked" gamemode in r6. If assist drop comes to ranked, adding unranked with assist drop, tighter MM, etc.. to make normal gameplay more enjoyable would be great. I think it would be great middlegroud for pubs and ranked. Btw RnG is something that BR just can't get rid of and I think apex was doing pretty great making game less RnG heavy. You can't just pick purple armor from ground and win drop fight now.

@CCbathwater I really miss straight shot. I want it for the full game mode but they know the hot droppers are the majority so I doubt it will ever happen.

@raphi0099 I'm not gonna sit through Rookie-Gold before you start being able to play the game in plat, and then have Respawn do a "split" and knock me back down again. Remove abandon penalty, then I might have the mental to sit through it all.

The problem is that my teammates who want to drag me into a Fragment drop will, 90% of the time, do absolutely nothing and expect me to carry... with a P2020, no ammo, no heals, etc., in a 1v21. It is further from being fun than the distance to the Sun.
If you want me to carry you need to give me a gun, ammo, and heals. And a reasonable scenario - not a 1v21. Which is why Mixtape is more fun, despite Respawn's many attempts at sabotaging the playlist, as I pick a loadout, don't have to worry about ammo or heals, and the toughest scenario will be a 1v9. Now I have a chance if I'm expected to be a one-Wattson army.
