Are you getting any error messages after Apex closes? This is happening after you switch modes, but before you actually queue up, is that right? If you do happen to see an error, a screenshot of the exact message would be helpful!
If you're on PC and able, attaching a dxdiag could also give us some additional information to see what could be contributing to this, thanks!
