In the past you may have added "+miles_channels 2 " to debug sound issues to your advanced startup for the game. Remove that as it looks like it is no longer supported.
it will vary how to remove based on whether you use Steam or Origin client

@chekm80 Set +miles_channels 3 and it will be set to Stereo.
- 3 years ago@Tea_Time_5656 Thank you that helped! After I deleted the "+miles_channels 2" the audio was always on 7.1 Surround. I could only change that to stereo/headphones when I set it to "+miles_channels 3".

Hi, i solved it as following:
- Start apex until you see the error screen,
- open windows sound settings
- go to advanced sound settings (far below)
- set the audio output and input of apex to standard
- restart the game
