So guys, I don't know if I actually fixed it but I was able to play all last night without a single crash for approximately 3.5hrs! Again, this may not work for everyone, but this is what I did for my system and it seems to be running okay, i'll be playing a lot over the weekend to truly see if it's fixed.
My system specs:
Windows 7 Pro 64
Intel i5-760 OCed to 3.8ghz
16GB DDR3 XM3 RAM 1333Mhz
MSI Geforce GTX 1050Ti 4GB
1. The first thing I did was to CLEAN install the new Nvidia Drivers which were released on 2/13 (418.91). I did not install the Geforce Experience.
2. Performed a FRESH install of APEX Legends, making sure to completely delete all saved information.
3. Disabled Origin In-Game options as well as added the +fps_max command in the advanced launch options for Apex. I set mine to 100 because, why not?
4. Once in game, I set my VRAM to 6GB or the HIGH setting as I have my video settings all high except Sun Shadow Coverage, Sun Shadow Detail and disabled volumetric lighting and dynamic spot shadows.
5. Once I made all of those changes, I exited the game then went to the R5Apex.exe file in the Origin Games folder and made sure to set compatibility mode for Windows 7 and to Run as Administrator.
6. I then restarted my computer and launched and crossed my fingers!
RESULT: 3 1/2 hrs of uninterrupted gameplay!!!
I will continue playing throughout this weekend and immediately update this post if I experience any crashes but it is waaaaay better than it was before. I would experience a "Referenced memory could not be read error" probably 2 out of every 3-4 games, typically on launching from ship at the beginning of the game or at a random point in the middle of a match. So with 0 crashes in 3 hrs, I'm hopeful.
Hopefully this is useful to some of you as this game really is a LOT of fun and I hope they fix these issues soon with a patch. Best of luck out there!!
Glad it's working for you so far, @JMUTowlee !
Can anyone else confirm these steps work?
I've seen multiple players mention fixes for the following:
- Make sure all your drivers and Windows Updates are installed. Search "Windows Updates' in your desktop search bar. Some might be pending to be installed.
- Update your drivers: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/finding-devices-and-updating-drivers/
- Display all overlays you might be using (Origin In-Game, Discord Overlay, GeForce Experience Overlay)
This method worked for me: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Possible-ea-server-timeout-fix-fx-series-works-in-game-too/m-p/7534180#M22660

I tried many things and what actually worked for me was restoring default setting. It is funny, because I actually just reduced the strain on my pc, but it seems to have started the crashes. The most crashes I got was when I completely disabled pre-loading textures (0 VRAM needed). The settings then started telling me I have insufficient VRAM for that setting (which has requirement at 0, so that is funny). So at least for me, it seems to be the lower setting I have, the more crashes I have.
So I restored defaults and then changed it to borderless windowed... might be worth trying.

Update. Tried reducing the shadow quality and texture filtering. Crashed immediately next game. Put it back up and no crashes... the game is a bit choppy for me though. The framerate is not that high. Maybe that is actually what is helping me? If your framerate goes too high, you crash?

that's a completely different issue from the one being discussed in this thread, are you sure?
Updating my situation, still crashing:
Running origin+apex in compatibility mode for Windows 7, as administrator.
Disabled GeForce Experience/Overlay.
Uninstalled Visual C++ 2017, Reinstalled 2010+2015.
Samsung SSD Rapid Mode is disabled.
Tested fullscreen and borderless windowed displays with tons of different graphics settings.
Win7 Ultimate
GTX 1060 6GB
i3 8350k
16GB DDR4 RAM

When launching Apex at the first introduction and during game, do you have little but noticeable stuttering and laggy sound ?
- 7 years agoyes, at first i get lags in the menu and from time to time the game will start in windowmode.

Yes, I am serious. It`s worked for me- 7 years ago
Thank you for clarifying.
I tried it, and I still get the referenced memory crashes.
I'm glad your game is working, but the rest of us still can't play ☹️
