Apex Legends Steam — Javelin AntiCheat error [4]

Hello everyone,

I cannot launch Apex Legends on Steam. After the EA Javelin AntiCheat splash screen, I receive Anti-Cheat error [4].

System information

* Windows 11 Pro 23H2, OS build 22631.6199

* Platform: Steam PC

Event Viewer errors

* Failed retrieving service path.

* The game r5apex_dx12.exe exited unexpectedly, exit code: 0x40010004

* Source: EA Javelin Anticheat, Event ID 1000

Troubleshooting already attempted

* Verified Apex Legends game files through Steam

* Reinstalled the EA app and cleared its cache

* Ran Windows system file checks

* Reset the network stack

* Tested with empty Steam launch options

* Downloaded a fresh EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe from the official EA CDN and ran it as administrator, but Apex Legends was missing from the game selection list

The issue persists. Has anyone experienced the same problem or found a confirmed fix? I would appreciate help identifying why Javelin cannot retrieve the service path.

Thank you.

    Thanks for the detailed report and for listing everything you’ve already tried.

    Since the Event Viewer is showing "Failed retrieving service path", could you please try launching the EA app as Administrator and then launching Apex Legends directly through the EA app, even though you normally play through Steam?

    If that doesn’t make any difference and you don’t mind trying one more step, it may also be worth reinstalling Apex Legends to its default installation location and testing again.

    Please let us know whether either of these changes the error or allows the game to launch.

    Thanks for the suggestions! I already tried running EA and Apex as administrator, and I also tried reinstalling the game, but neither worked for me. What finally worked was disabling IPv6 in my Wi-Fi adapter properties. Apex stopped showing the Javelin AntiCheat error [4] on my Verizon Wi-Fi after that. Hopefully this helps others with the same issue!

    Please try the solution shared by zKm_03 , which involves disabling IPv6 in your Wi-Fi adapter properties, and let me know if it helps.

    Thanks!

    so finally i fixed the issue. i went through all windows services one by one enabling them and lunching apex and try if it was fixed. so the service which was disabled for me was DNS client by default its on on windows but i did some tweaking to my OS so it was disabled. now i enable it and i dont get kicked from matches and no anti cheat Error. This was not happening with EZ anti cheat but seems like javelin anti cheat needs DNS Client service to be running. pls share this fix because i had seen a lot of posts where they suffer the same issue.

    Thank you very much
