Cannot link Ea with my xBox account

I went on youtube and looked over the forums, and I still cannot figure out how to link my xBox account with my EA account.

I am able to log into my EA account on my computer, so there aren't any username or password issues.  Whilst logged in to EA, I went to connections, and my EA was linked to Steam, so I unlinked that because I read that we cannot has two platforms linked at the same time.

Here is what has happened so far while trying to connect my EA account to my new Xbox:

1) I log into the game, and it says I must have an account to play.  I then get a pop up with a QR code.  When I scan the QR code, it takes me to a website called streaming-now.com.  It wants me to create an account (which I did), but then it asks me for credit card information (which I did not).  This is my first question.  Is this legit or a scam?  It seems sketchy to me, and I don't understand why I would need a credit card in this instance.  

2) It offers an alternative to using the QR code on the same popup.  It asks me to go to https://help.ea.com/en/ihi/aTQj1LHc4V.  This is a legit EA page asking me to reset my password.  It sends me an email to reset said password, I click the reset password link, make a new password, the it says that I was successful.  That's it; nothing else.  I still can't log on to the game.  That didn't feel successful :-)

3) I saw on Youtube that I can link a different way.  I can go to ea.com, click the question mark, click on EA Help, then click login, then click the xbox icon on top.  After I do that, I get another error.  It says connect error social login failure ea.com.

Can anyone please help me?  If not, can someone please tell me where else to ask / post this question.  It is very weird.  Thanks!!
