cant see xbox friend online

I'm on my PC and I added my Xbox friend and he added me back but It doesn't say he's online for me and it doesn't say I'm online for him either. I was wondering how I could fix this.

    I am on PS5 having the same issue with my PC friend and we have been friends on apex for a long time

    I'm on ps and can't see or invite my pc friends, all relevant settings have been checked .
