Re: Extreme packet loss when playing ranked on Xfinity internet

I've been receiving packet loss for every rank game. I am connected to ethernet cable & receiving high speed internet. I did every troubleshooting steps I could possible do on my end. This packet loss started happening once Apex decided to implement DDOS servers for rank lobbies.

Need assistance on a resolution.

    Hi yunghotsauce,

Sorry to hear you’re getting packet loss in every Ranked match, especially after already troubleshooting your connection.

Since this only happens in Ranked, please let us know:

    • Your platform and region
    • Your usual ping and packet-loss percentage
    • Whether it affects every Ranked match or only certain times of day
    • Whether other modes work normally during the same session

You can review the connection steps here:

Troubleshoot high ping, packet loss, and lag in Apex Legends

We can’t confirm from the forums whether this is related to DDoS protection, but the additional details may help narrow down whether the issue is tied to a particular data center or Ranked lobby.

Thanks for reporting this. Hopefully, the information above will help us better understand the pattern.

    Hi EA_Salmon

    Platform: Playstation 5 & Northeastern-US
    Ping:40-50
Packet loss %: 70-90 sometimes could go up to 100-120
It interrupts 90% of my rank games.

Hi EA_Salmon - Thank you for your reply! I play on PlayStation 5 and PC, in the Northeastern US region (I'm in New Jersey), playing on Xfinity (I've also tried switching servers, but it doesn't matter). I usually have very low ping, 30 or less, and zero packet loss. This is how it is for me in public matches, Wildcard, etc. Normal gameplay, no issues. And this does not impact every Ranked match - for instance, I just started the new season in silver lobbies and it does not happen there.

However, as soon as I or someone in my party climbs to a high enough rank, or we end up a higher level lobby, the pentagon (shield) icon appears in the performance data beside the server ID and I always get terrible packet loss. I tested it over multiple sessions on multiple days and it happens every time. Friends I play with in the same general region, but who use a different ISP, do not encounter this problem. Maybe it will be fixed with the server fixes they announced in the recent update? Not sure. Whatever help you guys can give would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi yunghotsauce,

    Thanks for the additional details.

Since this affects most ranked matches, please try manually selecting a different nearby data center from the Apex title screen rather than leaving it on automatic. It may also help to fully restart the console and router, then test with a wired connection and no downloads or streaming running on the network.

If possible, please compare at least two nearby data centers and note whether the packet loss changes. When the issue occurs again, share the server ID, selected data center, approximate time, and a screenshot of Performance Display.

Thanks for continuing to provide details. Hopefully, switching data centers offers some improvement while the pattern is investigated.

Thanks for documenting the pattern so clearly. Please keep us updated if a game update changes the behavior.
