fps drops in certain directions

recently i bought a 1080p 165 hz monitor and for checking how good it is mid game , i started to record my gameplay. then i found out that apart from normal 10 fps drop in gun fights ,there are fps drops when i am facing certain, appearently random directions. no matter if there is fight or smoke or stuff, even in empty buildings in certain direction fps drops from 165 to 110-140. when i overclock my monitor to 190 hz , same thing happens and fps drops from 190 to 110-140 when facing certain directions. then i went to firing range and noticed when i am facing toward EVO shields my fps drops from 190 to 150-140,like more shields in my screen more fps droping ! and suddenly i noticed that emote sprays that poping up randomly in firing rang ,does the same as EVO shields and make fps drop . i dont know about the cause of all this but it doesnt seem normal to me, and i want to play with stable high fps. is it because of my gear which doesnt match +144 fps or its just a bug or something.can i just play with stable 165-190 hz fps with this gear ?( 1080p res and game setting lowest possible)

cpu: core i5 9400f

gpu; gtx 1070 ti 8 gb

ram: 16 gb

so if its possible, then what is this fps drops all about and how to solve the problem? i am keep recording and looking for any pattern repeating when my fps drops, but little help will be appreciated!

  • Hey @mosta-aan110

    Cool, congratulations on the new monitor! It is very useful that you have overclocked the screen.

    Well, I can help you so that the game works perfectly on your PC at maximum FPS and without any stuttering. I have been looking for the "solution" for a long time and have found a simple way that works on virtually every system. The only thing that has to be adjusted individually is the limitation of the FPS and the resolution (since of course everyone uses a different monitor).

    2.)
    --> Use the following start options in Origin for Apex Legends:
    -dev -novid -high +fps_max 0

    --> Go to your nvidia settings "Adjust desktop size and position", scaling with: GPU
    and check the box next to "Override the scaling mode set by games and programs"
    and choose also "fullscreen" on top, click apply

    --> Go to your nvidia settings "change resolution", output color format: YCbCr422

    --> Navigate to:

    C:\Users\* your username*\Saved Games\Respawn\Apex\local
    (You can also just press the Windows key, type in "Games" and simply navigate through the folders)

    --> Open the videoconfig, delete everything and insert this here (if your monitor has a resolution other than Full HD, adjust the two will in the config accordingly):
    Spoiler
    "VideoConfig"
    {
    "setting.cl_gib_allow" "0"
    "setting.cl_particle_fallback_base" "-999999"
    "setting.cl_particle_fallback_multiplier" "-999999"
    "setting.cl_ragdoll_maxcount" "0"
    "setting.cl_ragdoll_self_collision" "0"
    "setting.mat_forceaniso" "0"
    "setting.mat_mip_linear" "0"
    "setting.stream_memory" "000000"
    "setting.mat_picmip" "4"
    "setting.particle_cpu_level" "0"

    "setting.r_decals" "0"

    "setting.shadow_maxdynamic" "0"
    "setting.ssao_enabled" "0"
    "setting.ssao_downsample" "3"
    "setting.dvs_enable" "0"
    "setting.dvs_gpuframetime_min" "4167"
    "setting.dvs_gpuframetime_max" "4084"
    "setting.defaultres" "1920"
    "setting.defaultresheight" "1080"

    "setting.gamma" "1.000000"
    "setting.configversion" "7"
    "setting.modeldecals_forceAllowed" "-1"
    }
    --> Save the video configuration and the editing of a right click on the file, put a check mark next to "read only" and press belong. From now on you don't want to be able to change any video settings in the game, but that doesn't really matter. If it works, you don't have to change anything. It is important to use the write protection here, otherwise the entire config will be changed again with the slightest change to the video settings in the game. Do not be surprised, all settings are now on "Low", the game is now almost suitable for e-sports.

    (btw. if u want much more fps set "setting.stream_memory" "000000", set it to 400000 if you have good hardware and want better visuals)

    3.)
    Take a look at that too:

    Ok thats all. You are welcome to give me feedback and just write to me if you have any questions.

    Greetings and good luck!
  • first tnx for putting your time in and replay. the problem with evo shields in firing ranget seemed to be solved by following your steps. but then i just realized that bc of the low setting , fps drop caused by evo shields wasnt enough to lower my fps below 190 . but when i changed my direction to the way that  all  evo shields in firing range came in the screen, fps starts to drop below 160. furthermore i still got fps drop when facing certain directions when i launch the game like trio or duo .fps drops most likely when i am facing toward center of the map. and get back normal when  toward edge of the map.all  this is for the open, while for close areas like buildings directing toward center or the edge doesnt make any differences and fps drops randomly. the RTSS app you recommanded is useful btw . in firing range, when i am facing the way no evo shields are in my screen, those frame color indicator bars got vibration in localized spot and my fps is 190. when i am  facing toward evo shields this vibration spreads across the whole bar and my fps is drops below 190. so appearently fps drop caused by evo shields and localization of this vibration in bars are correlated some how. and  changing scanline sync didnt affect those bars as well. is there any point i am missing about the whole steps?   i start to think my fps drops are normal and i just need more powerful gear. again tnx for your help , i appreciate it a lot 🙂

    @mosta-aan110

    now i have left room for maneuver in my instructions, because different settings work for different hardware. If your FPS falls below 160, I would recommend setting your monitor to static 144 Hz. if the auxiliary display in RTSS fluctuates significantly, this is also a sign that the hardware is too weak for the selected settings. it is important to set +fps_max 0, otherwise the display fluctuates as well, and also deactivate gsync/freesync everywhere (in monitor settings too if its aviable for you). I have tested my manual on many different systems and it worked smoothly everywhere. it is important to set the right settings for your hardware. Stronger hardware especially a stronger graphics card would of course help you to operate your monitor natively in apex legends. however, it is not recommended to go over 190 fps / hz with rtss in apex legends. if you want to use over 190 hzyou have to do without (negativ) scnaline sync.
