Game Crashing - Please Help

Both today and yesterday, game crashing when I hit continue on startup. When I verify file integrity, 3 files can't be verified. I reinstalled yesterday and was running fine, but now it's crashing on start up again. I don't know what to do. 😭

This is on Steam btw.

    Hi WavexPufferfish,

Thanks for reporting this! I'm sorry to hear that Apex keeps crashing on startup, especially after you've already tried reinstalling the game.

Since you mentioned that the game worked yesterday but started crashing again today, let's try a few additional steps:

    • Make sure Windows and your graphics drivers are fully up to date. If the issue started after a recent driver update, you could also try rolling back to a previous stable version.
    • Close any unnecessary background applications, particularly overlays or monitoring software, to check whether they might be interfering with the game.
    • Try performing a clean boot to help identify possible software conflicts.

You can also check our Apex Legends troubleshooting guide for additional steps.

Regarding the three files that fail verification, could you let us know whether Steam reports the same three files every time you verify the game?

Also, when Apex crashes, does it simply close to the desktop, or do you receive a specific error message?

For anyone experiencing a full system crash or BSOD, please let us know the stop code displayed, as that may help distinguish it from a regular game crash.

Thanks for your patience, and let us know how it goes!

    Hi lejimbooo and KentManGR,

I'm sorry to hear that you're both experiencing similar issues.

Could you please try the troubleshooting steps I shared in my previous reply and let us know if they help?

If the issue persists, please share any error messages you receive or additional details about when the crash occurs.

    Thanks for your patience!

    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share something that might be worth trying.

I've seen some players in the Steam community mention that temporarily disconnecting external USB devices, such as USB drives or other non-essential peripherals, before launching Apex helped them get past the startup issue.

You could try disconnecting any non-essential USB devices, launching the game, and then reconnecting them once the game is running.

I understand this may not work for everyone, but it might be worth a try.

If you decide to test this, please let us know whether it makes any difference.

    Thanks!

It closes just before the "click to continue" screen. Sometimes a "Possible corruption in installed Apex files" Sometimes it closes with no message.

The game crashes during shader loading or shortly after reaching the lobby, sometimes before the continue screen. Some runs close silently in the lobby after a couple seconds

Crash code is 0xC0000005 (access violation) in r5apex_dx12.exe. Recent crashes fault in NVIDIA’s shader compiler (nvgpucomp64.dll) and in D3D12Core.dll.

Some crashes show “Possible corruption in installed Apex files.” Repair doesn’t fix it. The anti-cheat files (EAAntiCheat.GameServiceLauncher and preloader_l.dll) keep getting restored after each verify or update.

Tried all troubleshooting guides and more: Clean reinstall on both C: and D:, EA anti-cheat installer repair, NVIDIA driver clean installs (621.01 and 551.23), DDU cleanup, Windows memory test (no errors), sfc and DISM (completed), closing background apps, and resetting the EA App’s settings.
