Monitor goes into power saving mode when playing Apex...

ISSUE: Upon playing Apex Legends the game will inevitably cause my monitor to go into "power saving" mode and essentially power down the monitor. If I restart the monitor it will no longer pick up a signal from my laptop. If I unplug the displayport cable the display will switch to my laptop screen and be perfectly fine to play (for obvious reasons I'd much prefer to play on my 27 inch monitor than my 17 inch laptop screen.

APEX IS THE ONLY GAME I OWN THIS OCCURS IN.

MY SETUP: I'm playing on a gaming laptop running a display port via USB C to display port adapter to my 27 inch 1440p 160Hz gaming monitor.

Laptop Specs:

i7-10750H @ 2.2Ghz

RTX 2070 8GB VRAM

16GB RAM

1TB SSD

I'm running the game at fairly low to medium settings at 144Hz in fullscreen mode.

Possible cause? I'm fairly uncertain what Apex Legends as a game does differently to others (I play numerous titles such as CoD: Warzone; League of legends; The witcher 3; Minecraft) to cause this issue, but it seems to stem from a lack of power to the display?

I'd love to hear your ideas, thanks for reading 🙌

    Hey @JoosyTheGoose

It's definitely weird that it would only be happening with Apex Legends. Have you tried using a different monitor cable to test and see if that makes any difference at all? Sometimes a bad cable can cause issues like this.

  • Hello, I'm gonna order another cable and see how it goes. Thanks for replying!

  • Think the HDMI port coming from my laptop must be 1.0, because the monitor is completely locked to 60Hz when I use it even with a new 2.0 cable. Any way around that?

As far as I know HDMI 1.0 only supports 60 Hz refresh rates. To use a higher refresh rate you would need to use HDMI 2.0 or Display Port.
