It sounds like this is an issue with older video cards as mentioned in the response above yours. I'll pass on this information to the team investigating this.
Hey everyone,
Thanks for the posts and information! We've passed this along to be checked into, but in the meantime rolling back to a previous driver may help resolve the issue.
We have a few workarounds listed on our Trello page for this as well, please feel free to keep an eye out below for further updates.

Should the DX12 version of Apex work on the GTX 660 at all? The DX12 feature level there is only 11_0.

Hi @SpaceshipCaptain,
The team looking into this had identified this issue as related, and had some success with those workarounds in the meantime.
Thanks for giving those a try, we'll pass along that those haven't done the trick in your case. For clarity, this is still under investigation.

This is definitely an element of the situation we're aware of and looking into specifically.

Hi @EA_Mako. Has there been any update on this? My friend also has a GTX 660 and the exact same issue. Splash screen and then the steam button goes back to "Play" No errors on either dx11 or dx12. Neither work. The game just closes.
I see the issue is under investigation but is there any update as to what is going on? - 4 months ago
I’m getting EasyAntiCheat cannot bypass IO kernel error every two hours of playtime, on the dot. I’m only crashing to desktop(steam page, origin page) no BSOD,no pc restarts, etc. I’ve gone through an entire list of troubleshooting steps for weeks. I’m not OC gpu nor CPU, I turned off all overlays, etc.
