Packet loss

Since yesterday I've had extreme packet loss which has resulted in Apex being unplayable. This isn't every game; sometimes I'll get one or two games that run fine but then packet loss starts again. I've tried multiple data centers, both in Europe (where I live) and NA and they all randomly get packet loss at some point.

I've done 2 trace routings as per the troubleshooting guide, attached below.

In addition, I also get a netchannel removed error occasionally, it started with the packet loss too.

  • Yes, I've done everything outlined in the troubleshooting guide and nothing has worked.

    Hi @speak2themanager,

    To confirm you've

    1. Restarted your router and tried a hardwired connection
    2. Run Origin as Administrator
    3. Flushed your DNS using an admin account and set an alternate DNS
    4. Reset your hosts file.
    5. Tried a clean boot
    6. Closed background applications/programs and
    7. Opened ports for Apex?

The next steps to try if you've completed all of the above would be checking your IPv, enabling the UPnP and doublechecking your NAT settings. The steps to do so are lower down in the same article: https://help.ea.com/uk/help/pc/connection-troubleshooting-advanced-pc/#stillneed

  • I did everything you suggested and it still isn't working. In addition, I still get the netchannel removed error message. Is this on my end or the servers?

So far the trend is being able to play 2-3 games just fine and then a game with packet loss. The packet loss is constant and doesn't get better/worse during the game (which you'd expect from an unstable internet connection). After the game is over, I have to force close the game because the "connecting to lobby" message gets stuck. I also can't spectate anyone at that point.

It's already been mentioned in this thread so I highly doubt it's our collective internet connection being bad, especially when the game runs fine for a couple of matches. If it was my internet, I think I'd notice even a slight hint of packet loss in the normal games too, no? I've done everything I can to fix this but no dice; I really think it's a server issue or bug of some sort.

    Hi @speak2themanager

I don't think this is a server issue. 🤔 When I check our servers, they are showing up healthy and strong. You can check what the status of the Apex server is on across each platform from the EA help website and then searching for apex. Here's a shortcut: https://help.ea.com/en/apex-legends/apex-legends/

Once that page loads, you should see this:

You can check on the server status when you experience packet loss on this page to double-check your suspicions on the server end of things. Just click the option here titled 'server status' and it'll expand and display the Apex Server status for PC, PSN and Xbox. It'll look like this:

  • @EA_Lanna This is a widespread issue - lots of threads with the same exact problem. I have a thread that runs down all the solutions I've tried. Why you're not seeing anything on your end is because I don't believe this is a network issue but a code issue. The network is perfectly capable of handling the traffic - it's your code that's bottlenecking performance but only on a segment of players.

Why I think so - the game performance is worse under times of heavy congestion. The game became unplayable for me as numbers swelled for the new update - but then the weirdest thing happened - the glitch came out that prevented hundreds of thousands of players from being able to connect to the match for the new quest. While everyone was jammed up trying to get into the quest, I hopped in a normal round - and the game played flawlessly. Before May 5, the game performed perfectly for me. Occasionally during off-hours, the game still performs great for me.

During your issues with hit reg - it wasn't network related, it was software related. This is no different. Something was tweaked in the update roll out that is bogging your servers down.

What is the current status? Can you play normal now? I have the same problems -.-

  • I have the exact same problem and I noticed this :

So : top right corner i see the double red squar showing i have like an issue with server, I see everybody mooving like frame by frame. In the worst case scenario, i moove and have an amazing rollback, making even my character not able to do anything, taking object make like a sound loop. Those case are more rare now but it happenend in ranked. The frame by frame mates and ennemies issue is maybe 1 game on 10 I would say. I have them more frequently on ranked game. I am not the only one to have this issue.

I am playing Apex since the release and I never ever ever saw this issue. It is definitly since season 6 I have this constent issue.

Is it due to mass cheaters (I don't know if a lot of people cheat in apex or not) ? To some bad servers ?

I had one game on ranked with this issue, I litteraly saw everybody mooving frame by frame making the game unplayable. Only today in one game, server went back to normal when we had less people alive. So this problem is definitly on EA side, not my internet provider or my computer. I can have those issue early in the morning, afternoon or night. And it is really like 1 game on 10 and more often in ranked.

And constently with this problem I have this : I die, my teammates die everybody die, I am not able to come back to the lobby, I keep seeing in blurry mode the ennemy playing frame by frame and i have the screen with the message returning to lobby. I have to close the game with an alt+F4 then restart it. Each time I do it I have a first error message regarding the server, I click ok then i am able to connect back to the game with no issue. No report of the previous game nothing on screen.

  • Have the exact same problem it happens on random matches, doesnt matter which time of the day. Earlier seasons I never had this problem. When I start a new game its completely gone but it appears constantly from time to time. Its a shame EA doesnt care at all. Blaming it on weak connection. My playstation is connected through a LAN-Cable and I have a good stable internetconnection. No chance I have a slideshow going on for a full match.
