This should be resolved, but feel free to check below for some extra context around this situation! Thanks for hanging in there while we got this cleared up!

Edit Aug. 30: We're looking into additional reports that this issue is continuing or reappearing for some, thanks for the additional info folks.

  • I saw X post, but it hasn't improved my environment at all.
The STEAM version freezes halfway through the boot screen and the software crashes.
My friend is also getting the same error.
I think this problem is continuing.

  • After the patch yesterday (August 29th) my game has been crashing/freezing when I launch it. The Easy anti-cheat window will appear and then the game will launch as a white window for a second before starting the opening animation which freezes on the first frame. It freezes so badly that it is impossible to close the window using task manager/alt f4 and I need to restart my computer every time. I have verified the files, re-installed apex, installed the latest windows 11 update, and installed the latest AMD drivers.

I believe the issue is related to full screen because the game will launch if I edit the video text file and launch the game in borderless window, however the game will crash as soon as I change it to full screen in the game. When the game is running in borderless window the game will go blurry every time the mouse is moved. This only happens in apex so I am pretty sure it is an issue with Apex specifically and it only started happening after the patch yesterday so I think it has something to do with that patch. I can’t find any information on the patch so I’m not sure how it could have affected the game. Any information on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!

  • Had the same thought. Changing from full screen using GeForce Experience allowed me to go longer without the crash however not far enough to do anything with the game. A note for the devs: For me this became persistent after the 'https://www.elevenforum.com/t/kb5041587-windows-11-cumulative-update-preview-build-22621-4112-22h2-and-22631-4112-23h2-aug-27.27999/' update I installed yesterday. Going to rollback the update and see if that makes a difference.

EDIT: Uninstalling said update provided no solution yet even greater negative results. I do not recommend reverting that windows update. It took away my ability to use my start menu. I guess we just wait on a fix.

    Hey everyone,

This should be resolved, thanks again for the patience.

Please give it another try next time you have a chance to hop back in-game and let us know if you're still seeing an issue.

  • @EA_Mako Thank you very much! I can also confirm that after the small patch deployed last, no more crashing on Steam version of Apex Legends 🙂

    Thanks for the confirmation all!

Since this has been resolved we'll be locking the thread here to avoid any confusion with separate issues that may occur, thanks!
