Re: Apex Legends crash

It's an nvidia driver issue; the temporary fix, until new drivers are released, is to uninstall your current set and install version 417.71

-Use Display Driver Uninstaller to remove (https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html)

(It will ask you to do it in safe mode, if you're on Windows 10 shift click on restart and choose advanced options on the blue menu, and then boot options, and then when it reboots click on safe mode)

-Install 417.71 (https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/141906/en-us)

Current drivers are borked. Found this out the 2nd day after release. Do this and wait for new drivers past the February 4th drivers.

  • Nope. Did just that and it still randomly crashes without any indication or error code

  • Seriously ... I have the same problem since the beginning, it crash with the message "dxgi_error_device_hung the applications device failed due to badly formed command sent by the application. This is an design-time issue that should be investigated and fixed" I tried all the solutions on this forum and nothing works for me, I can not even do more than 5 minutes in part ! And we do not even have news from Respaw or Nvidia. I have a 2080 Ti, i7700k without OC all that to not be able to do a single game on a free to play?!?

Fixed for me by removing the last 418.81 nvidia driver using DDU and installed the 417.75 instead (January hotfix).
I've set the max fps to 120 with the advanced launch option "+max_fps 120" (game properties), V-Sync on Double Buffered mode. All settings maxed out.

    My setup:
CPU Intel Core i9-9900K @ 4.8 GHz (HT OFF)
GPU Gigabyte RTX 2080 Ti GAMING OC 11G

With the 418.81 driver I could not play more than 1 or 2 minutes, I could not even finish the tutorial.
It works fine for me now: I've just done the tutorial and 3 games, no problem.

doesnt work for me and i cant eaven load in the game when i press ready then it starts to load and crashes

  • My Rig: rtx 2080, 7600k OC 5ghz

My problem: Every match freeze and crash to desktop without error code

I tried tons of the solutions listed above and nothing was working I was losing my mind. Here is what finally worked. (A combination of a ton of solutions)

    1. DDU and reinstall nvidia graphics driver 417.71 driver (please use DDU to uninstall)

    2. Play in fullscreen, low graphics settings on all options and acceptable Vram usage at 4gb in the graphics options

    3. Add exceptions in the windows firewall for Apex legends and Origin Launcher

    4. Disable all Overlays (msi afterburner ect), Disable Origin overlay and FPS counter (Origin -> application settings -> Origin in game (disable Overlay and FPS counter!)

    5.If CPU is overclocked downclock a bit (I did .3ghz from 5ghz to 4.7ghz)

I went from crashing every game in a similar manner to many RTX 2080, rtx 2080ti posters here to no crash since.

If someone is still having issues with an OC cpu and a rtx 2080 or 2080ti please try all those steps and let me know if it works! Try not to skip a step even if it seems trivial.

  • @AustinM33 I'm going to try all of this together and report back if it works or not, I've basically tried everything you mentioned, but mostly separately, with no luck.

I even went to the point of reformatted my drives and re-installed Windows with a brand new product key, didn't change anything.

Just for my own understanding, did you post this after having tried multiple long lengthen games in a row? (like at least 5-6 long games with no crash)?

Thanks for trying to help other people out!

@Vincheezoh  Hey ya I played 2 days of 5 or so games each and didn't crash. Interestingly today I just crashed.... but I enabled origin in game overlay temporarily to buy tokens so perhaps that was why. One final thing that I forgot to mention that I do is I join the training lobby before I start playing matches. (I am basically just trying all the suggestions I saw and it finally seemed to be working.) Obviously this isn't an ideal situation. I hope in a few days Nvidia will just come out with a new driver or something and it will all be fine. I think if you do all that above and join the training area for a second before you start playing games you should be able to get a few gaming days in without crashing (at least I hope)

whatever i do doesnt work i tryed every single thing i found and none worked :c
  • @AustinM33 I don't want to jinx it yet, but I've been able to play 8 games without crashing after following your steps above (without the Training Lobby thing), so if it did really fix my issue I can't thank you enough, lmao.

To add to this though, for the in-game settings, you mentioned putting everything at "Low", what I did was put everything to "Disabled" if it could or else to the Lowest possible settings, all except "V-Sync" that is still at Triple-buffered and Texture Streaming at 4Gb VRAM as you specified. In-case it matters to someone.

Thanks again man, I'll report back here if anything else occurs.

  • Hey all, I was having Texture2D errors all over the place. I decided to try increasing my page file memory, and I don't have anymore crashes!

  • RTX 2070 here. Reinstalled ver 416. even then this didnt solve the random no-error code crashes

I can confirm for me uninstalling the latest Nvidia drivers and reverting to 417.75  resolved my issue for now.

I want to do this, also have RTX 2080 TI Nvidia GeForce card.  However, when I try to install the 417.71 driver it for some reason claims to not be compatible with my version of Windows.  Which is absurd considering it's the Windows 10 64 bit driver and I HAVE Windows 10 64 bit.  I've seen others online claiming to have the exact issue I'm having with NOT being able to install older drivers because of this, but none of them seem to have found a fix.

Any ideas?  I'd owe you my life if you can somehow help me get back to the 417.71 driver!

I also did a clean uninstall of all the NVIDIA drivers/etc. using DDU while in Safe Mode and STILL can't install the 417.71 driver due to the error that claims my version of Windows is not compatible.

  • I tried the DDU with .35 and .71 with no luck. something is wrong on apex end

    crashing      all       the        time

    rtx 2080

I can't even finish a single game without a crash directly to Desktop! Fix

  • If u are using Nvidia Card use driver 411.70 and before playin stop all background apps like daemon tools, CPU Temp monitors etc. Still playin without crash with that driver version.
