I'm in the same boat. Asus RoG Zephyrus G with an R7 R3750H and this has been a dream machine for Apex's usually meager requirements. Something broke yesterday, and now the game is completely *not* fun because my CPU just shoots to 100% on all cores every few seconds. Doesn't happen in firing range, or lobby... just on maps. Trying reinstalling the game now, but I'd really like to see a definitive answer to why this happens rather than "try EVERYTHING".

Try reinstalling windows and without installing any bloat ware just install apex and run the game
  • Um, no? Everything else on this laptop runs amazing. If windows has to be reinstalled to fix Apex, goodbye Apex.

Well if you’re too ignorant to try that well that’s your problem stop wasting people time on the forum.

I'm going to go look up the most basic and useless troubleshooting guide used for any app, and suggest people do that.

  • I'm quite certain that only one of us has wasted many peoples' time in this forum.

The game is broken, not Windows. Most likely, something in the game depends on something in Windows not changing, which is *the game's problem*, not mine.

Sure, we can flail around and try a bunch of vague and general things to tweak and reset our systems. I'm not suggesting that won't get me back to dropping in happily.

But I'd rather solve the actual issue, and provide useful data to devs so they can find the real issue about how people get in to this state.

Things I have tried (all in isolation, so I reversed them after I tried them)

    - RegEdit to set the game's CpuPriority to 0. This reduced stutters, but did not eliminate them and the CPU usage is still too high.

    - Dropped all graphics settings to the lowest. This actually made things worse. I think because the GPU was helped more than the CPU, so now I get a lot of really distorted sound along with my stuttering game. The overall CPU usage did go down, but when the game stutters, it stutters *BAD*.

    - Turned off game mode. This did nothing.

    - Uninstalled/Installed Apex. This did nothing.

    - Tried a higher latency server (Wondering if maybe it was network  related). Seemed about the same but I'd swear the audio distortion from the lower settings was also more prominent. Probably just situational.

Trying installing latest Nvidia drivers now.

no you idiot it has proven to help lots of people, you saying the game is broken is just stupid. You have something that is conflicting with the game.

  • I am quite certain you and I both are smarter than our answers make us appear.

In fact, the problem disappeared without reinstalling windows.

The variable I had failed to mention, was that I was visiting a place 7500' higher in elevation than where this laptop generally works beautifully.

Upon returning to sea level, the problem went away. I suspect the thermal properties of the fans and CPU change just enough to make some CPU throttling kick in during those heavy calculations because the fans just can't move enough air past the heat sinks.

But, thanks for playing the internet rage game with me. Your prize is this post.

Why don’t you just admit the truth you did what I told you and it worked, you can still have a long post and still be ignorant you fool.
