I've found a solution. You can add friends through the Steam overlay by pressing Shift+Tab. This allows you invite people in-game. This only works for Steam users leaving people on the original Origin platform in the dust. Switch over to Steam and don't touch the friends list button. Then you should be safe from crashing aside from any other in-game crashes. Hope this helps ya'll people.
